In this study, two commercial products based on the main groups of contemporary biostimulants—a leonardite and a seaweed extract—were tested with objective assessing conditions under which they can enhance lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) performance, particularly to determine if synergies conventional fertilization methods be observed. The experimental protocol was arranged as factorial design factors: organic or mineral × plant biostimulant. factor included five levels: rates nitrogen (N) fertilizer (40 (Nmin40) 80 (Nmin80) kg ha−1 N), same N applied an amendment (Norg40 Norg80), unfertilized control (N0). biostimulants used were (leonardite) for soil application before planting, extract (algae) foliar during growing season, without Leonardite significantly increased dry matter yield (DMY) compared only in first cycle (11.5 13.5 g plant−1) showed no significant interaction fertilization. It also consistently phosphorus (P) levels tissues. did not show any effect plant, nor it have interactions regarding DMY. contrast, fertilization, DMY from 8.0 4.0 plant−1 (N0) 22.2 12.0 second cycles, respectively. response lower, yet still 8.1 cycle. Generally, type biostimulant is some form environmental stress, where often yields positive results. optimal cultivation maintained pots likely explain limited biostimulants. This study suggests that product labels should more clearly indicate whether are recommended general specifically situations particular stress anticipated.
