Exploring the inherent mechanisms by which digital economy fosters rural environmental governance holds paramount importance for driving sustainable development of regions and elevating living standards residents. Drawing upon theoretical frameworks extensive literature reviews, we have devised comprehensive indicator systems quantifying trajectory efficacy governance, employing entropy method measurement. Leveraging panel data that spans from 2011 to 2022, encompassing 31 provinces across China, empirically delve into influence on along with its underlying mechanisms, a fixed effects model. The baseline regression results reveal can significantly promote improvement even after considering potential endogeneity issues. Moreover, test mediation effect show enhance level accelerating industrial structure optimization improving green technology innovation. Furthermore, result regulatory implies urban–rural dual may inhibit positive governance. Additionally, there exists regional disparities in influences eastern region exhibiting more pronounced compared other regions.

The digital economy’s transformative impact on agriculture presents both opportunities and challenges for China’s pursuit of high-quality agricultural rural development. This study investigates the complex interplay between economy, industrial structure transformation, advancement using panel data from 31 Chinese provinces spanning 2012–2021. We employed mediation analysis threshold effect models to uncover several key findings: (1) economy influences development through dual-mediating mechanisms intensification upgrading in China. (2) These mediating effects exhibit heterogeneous patterns: while positively channels impact, shows an initial negative indirect effect, suggesting potential short-term disruptions. (3) relationship is nonlinear, characterized by significant effects. positive becomes more pronounced as surpasses certain sophistication thresholds. Our findings reveal nuanced dynamics digital-driven highlighting need targeted policies that leverage industrial-structure changes mitigating adverse research contributes a comprehensive understanding how digitalization can be harnessed promote sustainable China, with implications other developing economies navigating similar transitions.

In recent years, the digital economy and green have become integral parts of China’s economy. Chinese government has been actively expanding its support for development these sectors. However, there are still several obstacles hindering progress in China. The objective this study is to delve into impact mechanism on Moreover, paper innovatively integrates industrial structure technological innovation process. We elucidate significant roles played by two mediating variables. Simultaneously, we employ bidirectional fixed-effect model, baseline regression, robustness tests analyze data from 31 provinces China between 2012 2021. conclusions as follows: (1) contributes improvement level (2) When influences economy, upgrading play roles. (3) varies across diverse regions This reveals using variables innovation. The coupling and coordination of high-quality agricultural development (HQAD) rural revitalization is an inevitable choice to accelerate the realization Chinese-style modernization. Based on system theory, this study reconstructs indicator systems both conducts measurements by applying improved AHP–entropy weight method. This has extended analytical methods kernel density estimation, Dagum Gini coefficient, σ convergence, spatial β convergence further investigate spatio-temporal evolution, regional disparities, effect degree (CCD) HQAD in China from 2010 2020. results show that CCD a tendency increase year year, presenting characteristics ‘high degree–low comprehensive level–low degree’, also distribution pattern east low west’. In addition, most provinces have jump higher stage coordination; overall trend curves favorable; Dagum’s coefficient inter-regional disparities contribute disparities; there significant towards four regions. stimulates broader discussion revitalization, with potential implications for decision making practice.
