As the cultural importance of universities continues to grow, university museums have become key platforms for promoting heritage and values. However, enhancing visitor experience in these remains challenging. This study examines effectiveness smellscape history museums, with a focus on how various scents impact visitors’ emotions. Using Fuzhou University History Museum as case study, museum was divided into three distinct zones: Historical Evolution Zone (HEZ), Contemporary Development (CDZ), Thematic Exhibition (TEZ). Specific were selected each area evaluate their emotional impact, data gathered using electroencephalography (EEG) indicators, questionnaires, scent pleasure scales. The results indicated that calming like sandalwood agarwood, used HEZ, convey sense historical depth but may also evoke negative emotions, whereas sage enhances positive feelings. In CDZ, rosemary mint significantly improve states, while lemongrass exhibits weaker pleasantness appears less suited this area. TEZ, such patchouli orange blossom align well future-oriented themes, demonstrating high levels value. Smellwalk interviews further validated experimental results, revealing notable differences across different exhibit zones. A thoughtful selection can enhance expression spaces effectively regulate experiences, strengthening resonance environments. Future designers consider incorporating olfactory elements landscape design.
