The composition of plastic and multilayer packaging waste was assessed in the mixed municipal solid (MSW) streams Kaunas (Lithuania), Daugavpils (Latvia) Tallinn (Estonia) municipalities. For analysis samples MSW streams, authors used manual sorting a visual recognition method. Composition from separately collected multi-family single-family households performed research group combined near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy methods. findings reveal that percentage distribution within stream is relatively consistent across municipalities Kaunas, Tallinn, comprising 40.16%, 36.83% 35.09%, respectively. However, notable variation emerges when examining streams. In this category, proportion total ranges 62.05% to 74.7% for residential buildings 44.66% 56.89% buildings. provided further insights enhanced recycling potential different materials through improved sorting.
