With
the
expansion
of
global
trade,
China’s
commodity
futures
market
has
become
increasingly
intertwined
with
regional
maritime
logistics.
The
Ningbo
Containerized
Freight
Index
(NCFI),
as
a
key
indicator,
reflects
freight
rate
fluctuations
and
logistics
efficiency
in
real
time.
However,
limited
research
explored
how
data
can
enhance
NCFI
forecasting
accuracy.
This
study
aims
to
bridge
that
gap
by
proposing
hybrid
deep
learning
model
combines
recurrent
neural
networks
(RNNs)
gated
units
(GRUs)
predict
trends.
A
comprehensive
dataset
comprising
28,830
daily
observations
from
March
2017
August
2022
is
constructed,
incorporating
prices
commodities
(e.g.,
rebar,
copper,
gold,
soybeans)
indices,
alongside
Clarksons
containership
earnings.
undergo
standardized
preprocessing,
feature
selection
via
Pearson
correlation
analysis,
temporal
partitioning
into
training
(80%)
testing
(20%)
sets.
evaluated
using
multiple
metrics—mean
absolute
Error
(MAE),
mean
squared
error
(MSE),
root
square
(RMSE),
R2—on
both
results
show
RNN–GRU
outperforms
standalone
RNN
GRU
architectures,
achieving
an
R2
0.9518
on
test
set
low
MAE
RMSE
values.
These
findings
confirm
integrating
cross-market
financial
indicators
sequential
modeling
enhances
interpretability
accuracy
forecasting.

established
a
comprehensive
evaluation
model

2018
2021.
We
found
that
overall

by
COVID-19
pandemic,

for
improvement
