Once they reach the aquatic environment, microplastics (MPs) are accidentally ingested by biota, thus entering food chain with possible negative effects. The present study investigated, for first time, MP presence in cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) eggs and their association embryonic development. Cuttlefish were sampled from four different sites along Marche region (Senigallia, Ancona, Numana, San Benedetto del Tronto). Embryo hatchling biometric parameters evaluated internal structural integrity was examined through histological analysis. MPs detected characterized embryos yolk samples. identified all (size < 5 µm), however, has not been associated an impairment of either embryo or structures. Noteworthy, highest number (in both samples) found Numana (37% total amount), where lowest size observed. On other hand, mantle length (9%) Ancona. Overall, only fragments sphere types (74 26%, respectively) observed, most frequent polymers Polyvinyl chloride (52%), Polypropylene, Cellulose acetate (15% both). Further studies needed to assess effects on quality assimilation.

This study investigates the occurrence and characteristics of macroplastic polymer microparticles in Urias coastal lagoon’s beach sediments, northwest Mexico. Coastal lagoons, productive vulnerable ecosystems, are impacted significantly by anthropogenic activities, leadings to their pollution various contaminants, including plastics. Our research involved sampling sediments from four sites within lagoon that were influenced different human activities such as fishing, aquaculture, thermoelectric power plant operations, industrial domestic wastewater discharge. methodology included collecting macroplastics sediment samples, followed laboratory analyses identify plastic debris’ size, shape, color, chemical composition. The results indicated a notable presence items (144), predominantly bags, styrofoam, caps made polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), terephthalate (PET). mainly fibers, with cotton polyester most common polymers, suggesting significant contribution clothing-related waste. dominant colors blue transparent. High densities observed areas slower water exchange. findings highlight urgent need for better waste management practices mitigate preserving ecological economic functions.

This study analyzed microplastics in the gastrointestinal tract of Siberian dace (Leuciscus leuciscus subsp. baicalensis (Dybowski, 1874)) remote Yenisei tributary Nizhnyaya (Lower) Tunguska River (Siberia, Russia). µRaman analysis showed that 60% fish from two different sites had ingested plastic microparticles (on average, 1.55 ± 1.95 items per individual). The most common type microplastic were fibers, and abundant size category was 300 to 1000 µm. In studied population, no significant differences MP content between or males females found (p > 0.05). tendency for higher ingestion by at earlier ages (2+ 3+) compared later (4+ 5+) observed, which may be connected features biology ecology.
