Abstract This review paper presents fish reproductive toxicology studies with a specific focus on endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) present in the aquatic environment. These substances, including bisphenols, heavy metals, pesticides, phthalates, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), act as hormone mimics, receptor blockers, or enzyme inhibitors that affect hormonal regulation hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. In this review, we provide an overview of adverse effects these pollutants both female male reproduction (i.e., disruption HPG axis, gametogenesis disorders, disturbed embryogenesis, etc.). Even at low concentrations, EDCs can exhibit toxicity fishes. They functioning certain systems within hypothalamus (Kiss/GPR54, GnRH) also impact luteinizing (LH) secretion pituitary. compounds have negative impacts gonads, oocyte maturation, steroidogenesis, gametes. Early-life exposure to substances not only affects embryonic development, resulting increased mortality body malformations, but induces genetic changes newly hatched larvae. All observations underscore need for monitoring environment implementing protective measures preserve health welfare fishes safeguard water ecosystems.

Personal Care Products (PCPs) have been one of the most studied chemicals in last twenty years since they were identified as pseudo-persistent pollutants by European Union early 2000s. The accumulation PCPs aquatic environment and their effects on non-target species make it necessary to find new, less harmful, substances. Polyethylene glycol (PEGs) polyvinyl alcohol (PVAs) are two polymers that increased presence composition recent years, but little is known about effect species. Through embryotoxicity tests common models organisms (Danio rerio Xenopus laevis), this work aims increase knowledge PEGs PVAs' Animals exposed pollutant for 96 h. main endpoint (mortality, hatching, malformations, heartbeat rate) was recorded every 24 significant results hatching delay Danio both chemicals, malformations (oedema, body changes pigmentation deformations spine tail) D. Pesticides are an important tool for maintaining and improving the global population's standard of living. However, their presence in water resources is concerning due to potential consequences. Twelve samples from rivers, dams/reservoirs, treated drinking were collected Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality South Africa. The analysed using high-performance liquid chromatography linked a QTRAP hybrid triple quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer. ecological human health risks assessed by risk quotient assessment methods, respectively. Herbicides, such as atrazine, metolachlor, simazine terbuthylazine, sources. average concentrations rivers (1.82 mg/L), dams/reservoirs (0.12 (0.03 mg/L) remarkable among all four herbicides detected. Simazine, terbuthylazine posed high both acute chronic toxicity Moreover, only contaminant river that poses medium carcinogenic adult. It can be concluded level herbicide detected sources may affect aquatic life beings negatively. This study aid development pesticide pollution management reduction strategies within municipality.

Parabens are the most prevalent ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products (PCPs). They colorless tasteless exhibit good stability when combined with other components. Because of these unique physicochemical properties, they extensively used as antimicrobial antifungal agents. Their release into aquatic ecosystem poses potential threats to organisms, including fish. We conducted an electronic search PubMed ( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed ) using term parabens fish sorted 93 articles consisting methyl paraben (MTP), ethyl (ETP), propyl (PPP), butyl (BTP), benzyl (BNP) several species. Furthermore, we confined our six species (common carp, Cyprinus carpio ; fathead minnows, Pimephales promelas Japanese medaka, Oryzias latipes rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus zebrafish, Danio rerio) four common (MTP, ETP, PPP, BTP) 48 for review. Our indicates that among all fish, zebrafish was studied MTP tested Moreover, depending on alkyl chain length linearity, long-chained were more toxic than short chains. can be considered endocrine disruptors (EDs), targeting estrogen-androgen-thyroid-steroidogenesis (EATS) pathways, blocking development growth gametes, causing intergenerational toxicity impact viability offspring/larvae. Paraben exposure also induce behavioral changes nervous system disorders Although USEPA EU limit use pharmaceuticals, their prolonged persistence environment may pose additional health risk humans.

Parabens are alkyl esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid that commonly used as preservatives in personal care products such cosmetics. Recent studies have revealed the presence parabens surface and tap water because their use disinfection products; however, little is known about occurrence biological samples bioaccumulation potential, particularly raptor birds sentinels for pollutant detection. We examined tissue distribution parabens, metabolites, halogenated byproducts liver, kidney, brain, muscle prey from Texas North Carolina (USA). Methylparaben (MeP), propylparaben (PrP), butylparaben (BuP) were detected more than 50% all tissues examined, with kidney exhibiting highest concentration MeP (0.65-6.84 ng/g wet wt). Para-hydroxybenzoic (PHBA), a primary metabolite, had detection frequency (>50%) high accumulation range 4.64 to 12.55 ng/g. The chlorinated compounds chloromethylparaben chloroethylparaben found over half tissues, which dichloromethylparaben (2.20-3.99 ng/g) dichloroethylparaben (1.01-5.95 exhibited concentrations. dibrominated derivatives dibromideethylparaben (Br2EtP) was samples, brain. Concentrations 0.14 17.38 Br2EtP kidney. Dibromidepropylparaben (Br2PrP) not frequently detected, but concentrations ranged 0.09 21.70 muscle. accumulations total amounts (sum) parent (∑P), metabolites (∑M), (∑H) different species significantly different, differed among species. Positive correlations observed MeP, PrP, BuP, PHBA suggesting similar origins metabolic pathways. Environ Toxicol Chem 2024;43:2365-2376. © 2024 Author(s). This study aimed to develop broad-specificity antibodies for detecting prochloraz and its metabolites. Initially, three haptens were designed identified through computational chemical methods, the hapten H2 was optimal candidate. Using H2-BSA as an immunogen, monoclonal antibody 9C3 prepared recognize PCH two metabolites, BTS44595 BTS44596. The recognition mechanism revealed that "2,4,6-trichlorophenyl" moiety of targets is completely encapsulated in binding pocket mAb hydrophobic forces play crucial roles binding. Furthermore, indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay a colloidal gold immunochromatographic residues grapes river water samples developed. IC50 ic-ELISA 8.08–15.07 ng/mL, with recovery rates ranging from 73.80% to101.13%. In addition, visual detection limit GICA 250–500 values 98.04 126.29 ng/mL CRs 67.2 78.02%. accuracy precision both immunoassays validated by LC–MS/MS.
