Heterocyclic
pharmaceuticals
are
emerging
contaminants
due
to
their
toxic,
carcinogenic
nature
and
detrimental
impact
on
the
natural
ecosystem.
These
compounds
pose
a
significant
environmental
concern
given
widespread
use
in
medical
therapy,
constituting
over
90%
of
new
medications.
Their
unique
chemical
structure
contributes
persistence
various
matrices,
necessitating
urgent
measures
mitigate
risks.
This
review
comprehensively
examines
sources,
fate,
toxicity,
long-term
risks
associated
with
heterocyclic
pharmaceuticals,
proposing
potential
remediation
strategies.
The
article
commences
an
overview
diverse
types
applications,
focusing
containing
heteroatoms
such
as
nitrogen,
oxygen,
sulfur.
Subsequently,
it
explores
sources
pathways
through
which
these
pollutants
enter
environment,
including
wastewater
discharge,
agricultural
runoff,
improper
disposal,
resistance
biodegradation,
bioaccumulation.

Pharmaceuticals
are
increasingly

the

exploration

photocatalysis
as
a
promising
method

However,
application

photocatalysts

been
limited
by
issues
such
rapid
photocarrier
recombination
and
high
band
gap
energy.
One
emerging
strategy
to
enhance
photocatalytic
performance
involves
integrating
them
with
carbon
dots,
which
offer
advantages
including
low
toxicity,
aqueous
stability,
increased
surface
area,
cost
effectiveness,
biocompatibility,
chemical
inertness.

this
study,
we
conducted
critical
review
focusing
on
nanocomposite
development

removal
pharmaceutical

Abstract
To
achieve
complete
elimination
of
anthropogenic
micropollutants
in
aquatic
environments,
advanced
oxidation
processes
are
intensively
researched
as
remedies
and
potential
purification
stages
wastewater
treatment
facilities.
Persalts,
like
persulfates,
percarbonates
periodates,
have
been
investigated
accelerators
or
enhancers
these
processes.
This
short
review
provides
an
overview
the
efficiency
persalts
demonstrated
for
degradation
seven
most
frequently
occurring
pharmaceuticals
environment:
carbamazepine,
ciprofloxacin,
diclofenac,
ibuprofen,
metoprolol,
paracetamol
sulfamethoxazole.
While
persulfates
were
commonly
used,
all
increase
effectiveness
pharmaceutical
contaminants
by
increasing
formation
hydroxyl
radicals,
especially
case
sodium
percarbonate.
Persalts
efficiently
activated
through
UVC
irradiation.
The
generated
radicals
main
factor
product
hence
dominate
chemical
structures
transformation
products.
From
ecotoxicological
perspective,
use
causes
little
no
hazard,
if
conditions
such
that
acidification
can
be
neglected.
they
transformed
to
stable
anions
on
reaction,
resulting
products
predicted
quantitative
structure
