Food safety has recently become a widespread concern among consumers. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is rapidly developing novel spectroscopic analysis technique with high sensitivity, an ability to provide molecular fingerprint spectra, and resistance photobleaching, offering broad application prospects in rapid trace detection. With the interdisciplinary development of nanomaterials biotechnology, detection performance SERS biosensors improved significantly. This review describes advantages nanomaterial-based technology SERS's latest applications biological chemical contaminants, identification foodborne pathogens, authentication quality control food, assessment food packaging materials. Finally, challenges constructing applying sensing platforms field are discussed aim early ultimate diseases.
