Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is primarily associated with non-human-primates (NHPs) in Africa, which also infect humans. Since its introduction to Brazil 2014, CHIKV has predominantly thrived urban cycles, involving Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Limited knowledge exists regarding occurrence and implications rural sylvatic cycles where neotropical NHPs are potential hosts, from we highlight Leontopithecus chrysomelas (Kuhl, 1820), the golden-headed lion tamarin (GHLT), an endangered species endemic Atlantic Forest (AF) Southern Bahia State, Brazil. The present study investigated wild GHLT groups across two municipalities, Ilhéus Una, Bahia. Surveys were conducted three within cocoa agroforests ( cabrucas ) Ilhéus, four anthropized forest agroforestry fragments between 2021 2022. Thirty-two specimens captured chemically immobilized, examined submitted blood sample collection; nine later recaptured 2022, totaling 41 samples. viremia was not detected any (as assayed by RT-qPCR). Plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT 90 antibodies (6.3%) GHLTs, 10–20 antibody titers. Seroprevalence 5.6% 2022 8.7% incidence of 4.5%, whereas, a male adult tested seropositive both years, suggesting either natural re-exposure maintenance over time. All samples seronegative for Mayaro Virus. Eight mosquito Culicidae family collected, identified genomes, showing negative results. This provides first evidence exposure among free-living GHLTs Brazil, emphasizing their susceptibility role as reservoirs. These findings underscore possible consequences anthropic disturbances Brazilian AF, without seroprevalence difference non-protected formations, agroforest various mosaic farming landscapes South Bahia, importance conservation efforts this primate species.

Studies focused on the epidemiological surveillance of arboviruses that cause potentially zoonotic diseases, such as dengue, Zika, or emerging viruses like West Nile virus (WNV), are critical due to their significant impact public health. Although research these infectious agents is increasing in Colombia, regions remain where presence still unknown. To address this knowledge gap, present study aimed investigate current status WNV circulation wildlife two municipalities department Casanare (El Yopal and Paz de Ariporo) from Colombian region Orinoquia. Since arrival reported 2004, its detection has typically relied antibody screening using ELISA. While informative, technique needs offer a sufficiently precise time frame confirm active circulation. We employed molecular approach overcome limitation, detecting qPCR, which provides greater specificity narrower window. A total 2,553 swab samples were collected broad sampling covering 142 birds, 19 mammals, eight reptile species during 2023 2024 across four events conducted both dry wet seasons. The included with ecological symbolic value those economic importance, used for human consumption (bushmeat). No evidence was detected evaluated species, indicating not infected periods viral loads below threshold. Our results underscore importance further studies, including complementary diagnostic methods, detection, better understand broader temporal infections provide more complete understanding

Normally, the host immunological response to viral infection is coordinated restore homeostasis and protect individual from possible tissue damage. The two major approaches are adopted by deal with pathogen: resistance or tolerance. nature of responses often differs between species individuals same species. Resistance includes innate adaptive immune control virus replication. Disease tolerance relies on allowing coexistence infections in minimal no clinical signs, while maintaining sufficient replication for transmission. Abstract Pathogens are ubiquitous in ecosystems and play a key role affecting host community structure. In grasslands, large grazing animals such as cattle sheep have been shown to affect foliar fungal pathogens. However, theory empirical studies come conflicting conclusions because grazers can directly indirectly impact pathogens through wide variety of mechanisms various may different ways. A better understanding the by which is important for fundamental herbivore pathogen interactions also optimise managements reduce outbreaks. Here, we investigate multiple livestock impacts grasslands. We integrate large‐scale experiment, with removal experiment manipulating plant density litter biomass, identify direct indirect effects two herbivores on life histories (biotrophs necrotrophs), temperate grassland northeast China. found that had contrasting impacts: significantly reduced load, both biotrophs necrotrophs, whereas increased biotrophic but did not necrotrophs. The were mostly mediated Cattle load it abundance susceptible, fast‐growing plants, overall while infection resistant species. Plant diversity these independent herbivores. Our results show competence. This suggests importance considering simultaneously evaluate host‐pathogen interactions. Read free Plain Language Summary this article Journal blog.

Aedes aegypti is a primer vector of dengue virus (DENV) and chikungunya (CHIKV). The susceptibility mosquitoes to DENV CHIKV depends on their recognition receptor pathogens. C-type lectins (CTLs) are an important mediator infection in A. aegypti. This study aims identify potential receptors determine the binding affinity between ligand–receptor interaction, CTLs envelopes (DENV-1, 2, 3, 4 CHIKV) interaction based silico analysis. Background: Eastern Equine encephalitis (EEEV) and Venezuelan equine (VEEV) are vector-borne diseases of public health concern that likely to reemerge or spread due climate change. Methods: Between 2005 July 2023, a retrospective cross-sectional descriptive observational study was conducted analyze the cases EEEV VEEV in Colombia. Climatic variables temperature, rainfall, El Niño La Niña phenomena were analyzed. The reports obtained from Minister Agriculture. Descriptive statistics performed, Pearson correlation coefficient used. Findings: 169 102 horses found; remained low between 2005-2015. In 2016, there strong epizootic (n=57 cases) department Casanare bordering Venezuela. That same year, significant increase (n=15 Cesar on border with 2017 2019, decrease both encephalitis, but 2020, another essential appeared, peak 31 Casanare. climatic not associated EEEV. Interpretation: solid activity viruses shows can become human animal problems. Based present work, neighboring countries must be alerted increased cases.Funding: None.Declaration Interest: authors declare they have no conflict interest.
