Multidrug-resistant bacterial species and their untreatable infections threaten human health worldwide. The four seasons' essential oils (EOs) of Operculicarya decaryi were investigated against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus MRSA. Limonene was the major component identified in O. EOs followed by methyl cinnamate. autumn oil (Odao) has a robust antibacterial effect Camphor, carvone, p-cymen-7-ol, α-terpinen-7-al, cryptone, caryophyllene oxide highly correlated to observed activity. Odao exhibited significant wound healing ability remarkable anti-inflammatory activity adult dermal fibroblasts (HDFa) cells inflammatory model. A reduction microbial counts recovered from spleens groups treated either Fusidic acid or vivo skin infection murine model observed. This study is first record for phytochemical composition its antimicrobial, activities, suggesting camphor, p-cymen-7-ol as top components.

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the major pathogens that cause respiratory infections. The rise antimicrobial resistance has prompted a need for alternatives to conventional antibiotics. Bacteriophages (phages), natural predators bacteria, are gaining interest as an alternative therapeutic option against drug-resistant However, phage viability can be lost during manufacturing and delivery. Recent studies show phages taken up by lung epithelial cells, which makes fewer available antibacterial action extracellular bacteria P. in airways. Methods: In this study, we encapsulated liposomes using thin film hydration. effect processing conditions loading titer on encapsulation was studied. impact nebulization tested air-jet nebulizer (PARI-LC Plus). Phage cellular uptake evaluated vitro H441 cell model, grown at air–liquid interface. Results: Our results demonstrate favorable (58 ± 6.02%) achieved with minimum loss (0.64 0.21 log) low liposomal formulations exhibited controlled release over 10 h. formulation also reduced from 1.55 0.04 log (for suspension) 1.08 0.05 liposomes). Encapsulation enabled two-fold reduction longer retention human monolayer. Conclusions: indicate favors protection improves availability activity. These findings highlight potential inhaled

Klebsiella pneumoniae strains that are resistant to multiple drugs (KPMDRs), which often acquired in hospital settings and lead healthcare-associated infections, pose a serious public health threat, as does hypervirulent K. (hvKp), can also cause infections otherwise healthy individuals. The widespread unnecessary use of antibiotics seen during the recent COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated challenges posed by antibiotic resistance clinical settings. There is growing concern (hvKp) may acquire genes confer antimicrobial resistance, thus combining an MDR profile with their increased ability spread body sites, causing difficult-to-treat infections. This study aimed compare virulence profiles KPC-3-producing isolates collected over four years (2020–2023). A genome-based surveillance all CRE-K. was used identify genetic differences characterize profiles. Our results provide picture evolution contribute avoiding possible characteristics multi-drug virulence, thought be one main global health, within our hospital.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health problem, exacerbated by the excessive and inappropriate use of antibiotics in human medicine, animal care agriculture. Therefore, new strategies compounds are needed to overcome this issue. In view, it may be appropriate reconsider existing biomaterials alleviate antibiotic overuse. Chitin, naturally abundant amino mucopolysaccharide, poly-β-1, 4-N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc). It white, hard, inelastic, nitrogenous polysaccharide source surface pollution coastal areas. ABSTRACT Antimicrobial resistance is an escalating global health crisis, underscoring the urgent need for timely and targeted therapies to ensure effective clinical treatment. We developed a machine learning model based on metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) rapid antimicrobial susceptibility prediction (mNGS-based AST), which was tailored five ESKAPEE bacteria: Acinetobacter baumannii , Klebsiella pneumoniae Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus . However, utility remained unvalidated. Assuming that mNGS-based AST results were obtained during management, we assessed its using data from previous observational cohort study of mNGS applications. collected 114 patients infected with bacteria 07/2021 03/2023 incorporated into model. evaluated performance hypothetical impact method by comparing therapy recommendations those traditional culture-based AST. The primary outcome ( n = 113 strains). displayed overall accuracy 93.84% shorter turnaround time (1.12 ± 0.33 days vs 2.81 0.57 AST, t −27.31, P < 0.05). secondary outcomes included proportion who could benefit It allow earlier suitable antibacterial adjustments in 32.05% culture-positive (25/78) offer actionable 16.67% culture-negative cases (6/36). offers promising approach individualized therapy. IMPORTANCE Metagenomic (mNGS)-based (AST) novel predicting short-read data. it significantly reduce while maintaining high level accuracy, allowing therapeutic patients. Furthermore, can be integrated maximize without substantial cost increases. This demonstrates potential precise, selection highlights broader applicability enhancing use various infections.

Schoepfia schreberi has been used in Mayan folk medicine to treat diarrhea and cough. This study aimed determine the anti-growth, anti-resistance, anti-virulence activities of S. extracts against Acinetobacter baumannii, a pathogen leader that causes healthcare-associated infections with high rates drug-resistant including carbapenems, last line antibiotics known as superbugs, analyze their composition using HPLC-DAD. Ethyl acetate (SSB-3) methanol (SSB-4) bark exhibit antimicrobial biocidal effects drug-susceptible A. baumannii. Chemical analysis revealed SSB-3 SSB-4 contained gallic ellagic acids derivatives. The anti-resistance activity or SSB-4, combined imipenem, exhibited potent antibiotic reversal baumannii by acting pump efflux modulators. also displayed surface motility its capacity survive reactive oxygen species. suggests can be considered source antibiotics, even adjuvanted compounds, anti-resistant agents contributing ethnopharmacological knowledge reappraisal medicinal flora, supporting traditional use plant for treatment infectious diseases.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified concerns over bacterial infections and antimicrobial resistance, particularly in Romania. This systematic review explores infection patterns resistance during the to address critical gaps knowledge. Methods: A review, following PRISMA guidelines, was conducted using databases such as PubMed Scopus, focusing on studies of from 2020 2022. Articles Romanian patients were analyzed for demographic data, trends, profiles. Results: total 87 included, detailing 20,000 cases infections. found that Gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli Klebsiella pneumoniae, most frequently identified pathogens, alongside Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus Enterococcus spp. Multidrug (MDR) noted 24% reported strains, with common carbapenems cephalosporins. Conclusions: amplified complexity managing infections, critically ill patients. rise MDR bacteria underscores need stringent stewardship control measures. Continuous monitoring trends profiles will be essential improve treatment strategies post-pandemic healthcare settings.
