In an era of growing climate change impacts, there is increasing need to grasp the complex connection between human society and hydrological systems. Socio-hydrology, interdisciplinary area hydrology, sociology, economics, provides essential insights uncover how people's conduct impacts water systems resources. this context, paper looks at modern socio-hydrology advances what they suggest for creating resistance or insensitivity evolution. By synthesizing numerous theoretical backgrounds, empirical works, case analyses within concept socio-hydrology, tries show that socio-hydrological approach can provide decision-making policy intervention building resilience different levels. landscape South Asia, where resources are intricately linked across borders, emerges as a crucial framework fostering collaboration resilience. recognizing socio-economic political dynamics influence management, transboundary issues be approached holistically. Socio-hydrological principles explain behavior, cultural norms, governance structures intersect with processes. This understanding enables development inclusive policies, equitable agreements, cooperative strategies sustainable use conflict resolution. particular, analysis supports prospect integrating factors by social components including perception, cognition, institutions. examines It also explores potential frameworks models like integrated assessment (IAMs), system dynamic models, agent-based (ABMs), scenario planning in risk help facilitate adaptive governance. We find could enhancing Asia. Adaptive approaches, amongst key stakeholders, necessary navigate tricky disputes, disparities, vulnerability marginalized communities, all problems emblematic region. Further research field harness socio-hydrology's addressing interconnected challenges poses.

Knowledge gained from the aquatic sciences is of relevance to Indigenous communities. Efforts are underway braid and western ways knowing, following an overdue increased focus on reconciliation calls action. While many collaborative projects involve informal Indigenous-language communicative outputs, case has been made for communication outputs scientific that not essentially collaborative. Here, we describe our recent efforts communicate relevant science topics originally non-collaborative in Mi'kmaw, language eastern North America. We created infographic details mercury cycle Mi'kmaw by coining or reworking terms, avoiding technical known hinder communication. This kind knowledge mobilization shows it possible findings engage with audience. The benefits doing this include addressing action, revitalization, better inclusion, motivation, engagement, understanding among speakers. In demonstrating type designed two systems mind, through example cycle, hope other such may incorporate into their collaborations.

The weaving of diverse knowledge systems, including Indigenous, Local, and Western Knowledge, is an increasingly adopted approach in scientific research perceived as a promising path towards advancing management coastal areas fisheries Canada. Despite documented successes, skepticism among scientists decision-makers persists, leaving unaddressed gaps. Here, response to concerns voiced by fishers from the Mi'gmaw community Ugpi'ganjiq, Gespe'gewa'gi Institute Natural Understanding (GINU) co-created project improve understanding ecology state threatened Gumegwsis (i.e. Cyclopterus lumpus, common lumpfish) inner Mawipoqtapei (Chaleur Bay, Eastern Canada). Through Two-Eyed Seeing approach, we combined semi-structured interviews with five Knowledge Holders literature review, mapping, temperature monitoring. Utilizing this framework, learned about life history Mawipoqtapei, its significance local fishers, changes abundance over time, threats species, identified potential for spawning nursery habitats. Prior our project, Committee on Status Endangered Wildlife Canada (COSEWIC) assessment asserted "There are no indications any ceremonial uses Lumpfish there ATK (Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge) information available". In contrast, study reveals distinctive relationship comprehension held underscoring embracing multiple ways knowing species ecology, presenting compelling case co-creation recovery strategies collaboration research.
