The sustainable management of water resources is crucial for maintaining high-quality tourism, as it ensures the availability and reuse through effective wastewater treatment processes. This requires implementation technologies circular measures managing resources. In this context, present study focuses on Ravda Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), which treats largest coastal resort in Bulgaria, Sunny Beach. Data from seven consecutive years (2018–2024), including COVID-19 measures, have been analyzed. Particular attention has paid to analysis during last two study. For period 2018–2022, hydrochemical parameters (total nitrogen total phosphorus, volumetric load activated sludge/volumetric organic load) technological (treatment efficiency, COD/BOD5) were examined. 2023 2024, additional such SVI, comparative microscopic sludge, dynamics quantities aerobic anaerobic heterotrophic bacteria denitrifying bacteria, abundance genera Pseudomonas Acinetobacter, elemental composition at inlet outlet plant, studied. Samples taken five critical control points course process off-season, April November, when plant operates with a reduced number facilities. aim determine efficiency off-season possibility its enlargement improvement meet needs high season. Overall, results comprehensive analyses show that biotechnological system significant biodegradation potential but due large fluctuations residents. socio-economic environmental situation area extremely dynamic, necessitating introduction innovative balance negative impact environment ensure sustainability tourism.

The up-flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactor is a high-efficiency system capable of carrying out digestion with shorter hydraulic retention times than traditional digesters. This review highlights recent advancements in UASB applications and key aspects such as microbial community dynamics hydrodynamics that could drive future developments. More specifically, this evaluates the working principles reactors, explores strategies to optimize efficiency, examines technological aimed at overcoming temperature constraints, managing emerging pollutants micropollutants, addressing scum accumulation, odor emission, nutrient recycling challenges. Furthermore, it addresses concerns about lack skilled workforce energy loss biomethane. demonstrates high potential for enhancing global wastewater management while holding promises circular economic objectives, promoting efficient biogas utilization, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Many small communities rely on on-site wastewater treatment systems such as septic tanks; however, there are concerns regarding the level of being achieved. Appropriate solutions for these needed to upgrade existing tanks. Anaerobic filters a potential solution, which can be added downstream tank and operate by containing media allow biofilm form. Ideally, this would easily accessible affordable. In work, use brown coconut husks is investigated, it found that 68% chemical oxygen demand (COD) removed systems. Nutrient levels were also monitored in effluent determine whether leaching nutrients from concern. It was initially some nitrogen phosphorus had leached but washed out reactor very quickly minimal impact concentrations. Examination after 10 months operation showed no signs beginning break down, suggesting anaerobic should investigated further.

The inadequate collection and treatment of urban wastewater continue to pollute built environments, threaten public health, contribute epidemic outbreaks in many densely populated, underdeveloped regions. This study investigates whether algae-based offers an optimal efficient solution for drought-prone cities. Given recent global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, nature-based methods—particularly systems—have regained attention due their feasibility, cost-effectiveness, sustainability. Algae-based presents innovative approach sustainable development, offering environmental, resource-efficient, energy-saving, biodiversity benefits while supporting circular economy principles. evaluates advancements technologies applies a case methodology Zahedan City, analyzing sewage canal networks, composition, feasibility. Three techniques were assessed, with waste stabilization ponds (WSPs) identified most suitable based on technical, economic, environmental indicators. Key factors climate conditions, land-use policies, cost-effectiveness incorporated into comparative analysis, enhancing scientific rigor this compared prior research. findings provide actionable insights planners, engineers, policymakers address simultaneous challenges management, water scarcity.
