Natural antioxidant compounds from plants can contribute to pharmacological activities by neutralizing free radicals. Limited research has explored the phytochemical characteristics of filamentous green algae and their properties. In this study, three algal species, Oedogonium angustistomum, Ulothrix variabilis Mougeotia pulchella (Chlorophyceae), were isolated freshwater ecosystems Kerala, constituents, total phenol flavonoid contents evaluated. The study investigated whether sequential extraction with solvents varying polarity, such as petroleum benzine, acetone, methanol, water methanol crude (70% methanol), would affect phenolic algae. Results indicated that extracts had highest yield in aqueous Oedogonium, while benzine fractions yielded lowest. Preliminary analysis showed presence reducing sugars, flavonoids, triterpenoids acetone extract, which contained more compounds. There higher extracts, except for Mougeotia, extract content. differing effects on activity content among different polarities. promising being potent free-radical scavengers DPPH, nitric oxide hydroxyl radicals, respectively. was a prominent scavenger superoxide A concentration-dependent inhibition oxide, radicals anion observed extracts. studied appear contain significant amounts antioxidants, might prevent progression various oxidative stresses vitro. To be considered clinical use pharmaceutical or nutraceutical industries, must assessed vivo activity.

Plankton, a diverse group of organisms suspended in freshwater and marine ecosystems, plays crucial role aquatic environments. They are categorized into phytoplankton, zooplankton, bacterioplankton, each contributing uniquely to ecological processes. Phytoplankton, as primary producers, drives photosynthesis oxygen production, forming the base food webs. Zooplankton, consumers, link producers higher trophic levels aid nutrient recycling. Bacterioplankton is essential for decomposing organic material mediating biogeochemical cycles. Plankton distribution influenced by environmental factors such light, nutrients, temperature, salinity, with distinct communities habitats. Understanding plankton dynamics vital appreciating their global cycles ecosystem health.

This study explores the mixotrophic cultivation of Limnospira platensis using dairy byproducts, specifically scotta whey (SW), buttermilk wastewater (BMW), and (DWW), to promote biomass production enhance composition bioactive compounds. By assessing various concentrations (1%, 2%, 4% v v−1) these byproducts in a modified growth medium, this aims evaluate their effect on L. growth, phycocyanin (C-PC) content, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) profiles. The results show that optimal was achieved with 2% wastewater, reaching maximum 3.30 g L−1 3.19 L−1, respectively. Mixotrophic led increased C-PC yields, especially treatments, highlighting potential for producing valuable pigments. Additionally, FAME profiles indicated minimal changes compared control, oleic γ-linolenic acids being dominant conditions. These findings support viability utilizing sustainable cultivation, contributing circular bioeconomy while compounds nutritional commercial interest.

The cultivation of Haematococcus pluvialis is pivotal in the biotechnological production astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant with extensive applications nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and aquaculture industries. Astaxanthin accumulation known to be enhanced under stress conditions. Recent advancements have highlighted efficacy mixotrophic enhancing both biomass carotenoid accumulation. aim this work evaluate effect conditions induced by BWW on growth To aim, experiments carried out different light intensities time were specifically designed. This study displays effective carotenoids H. using brewery wastewater (BWW) as an organic source able sustain Various ratios combined BG11 medium. When was cultivated solely or control medium BG11, astaxanthin contents reduced compared higher values obtained their blended mixtures. In particular, BWW-BG11 1:1 system exhibited highest (5.46 g L−1) content (2.32%) undiluted (3.34 L−1 1.95%) (3.65 0.65%), respectively. significantly boosted rate metabolic activity pluvialis. dual approach not only accelerates but also enhances synthesis carotenoids, particularly astaxanthin. integration strategies into systems presents promising avenue for optimizing commercial ensuring yields cost-effectiveness.
