Abstract Timing alterations occur in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), even early stages (mild cognitive impairment, MCI). Moreover, a stage named subjective decline (SCD), which individuals perceive change performance not revealed by neuropsychological tests, has been identified as preclinical phase of AD. However, no study to date investigated different dimensions time processing along the continuum from physiological pathological aging, and whether timing SCD. Here sample participants with SCD, MCI, AD healthy controls (HC) performed tasks assessing prospective duration estimation, production, reproduction, implicit temporal learning conditions dependent external cues (externally-cued learning, ECL) or independent (internally-based IBL), retrospective experience collocation events. patients worse than HC SCD timing, collocating events time. The did differ between groups. Concerning ECL IBL, whereas IBL ECL. MCI all showed errors greater estimation. Results point externally-cued estimation possible markers decline.

Several recent studies have explored the relationships between mindfulness and time perception, an area of research that has become increasingly popular in last 10-15 years. In this article, we present a systematic integrative review evidence on subject. We also integrate field's findings into conceptual framework which considers multifaceted nature both mindfulness, perception research. To identify relevant literature, searched following databases using keywords: PsycINFO; Medline; EBSCO Host Psychology Behavioral Sciences Collection; Web Science. These searches were performed 4th May 2022, additional hand conducted. be included, articles had to English contain original data about potential relationship(s) perception. Articles did not usable variables interest excluded. total, 47 included (combined sample size ∼5800 participants). Risks bias selected evaluated two separate assessment tools designed for purpose. Through narrative synthesis, article reviews how may relate various reference frames, measures methods. It provides new insights by exploring wide range can integrated coherent whole, light some models theories. Altogether, reviewed suggest existence complex highlighting importance considering many factors when planning or interpreting field. Limitations current include scarceness certain categories findings, relatively low prevalence with randomized controlled design source literature. A central question in understanding cognition and pathology-related cognitive changes is how we process time. However, time processing difficulties across several neurological psychiatric conditions remain seldom investigated. The aim of this review to develop a unifying taxonomy processing, neuropsychological perspective on temporal difficulties. Four main judgments are discussed: duration simultaneity synchrony, passage time, mental travel. We present an integrated theoretical framework timing based selected patient populations. This provides new mechanistic insights both (a) the processes involved each judgement, (b) pathologies. By identifying underlying transdiagnostic time-processing mechanisms, opens fruitful avenues for future research.

Across species, neurons track time over the course of seconds to minutes, which may feed sense passing. Here, we asked whether neural signatures time-tracking could be found in humans. Participants stayed quietly awake for a few minutes while being recorded with magnetoencephalography (MEG). They were unaware they would how long recording lasted (retrospective time) or instructed beforehand estimate it will last (prospective timing). At rest, rhythmic brain activity is nonstationary and displays bursts alpha range (α: 7-14 Hz). When participants not attend time, relative duration α linearly predicted individuals' retrospective estimates their quiet wakefulness lasted. The was better predictor than power burst amplitude. No other arrhythmic duration. However, when timed prospectively, failed predict estimates. Consistent this, amount discriminant between prospective timing. Last, control experiment, demonstrate that relation preserved even are engaged visual counting task. Thus, at scale report spontaneous burstiness predicts conscious time. We conclude absence overt attention embody discrete states awareness constitutive episodic

Abstract Psychological time is influenced by multiple factors such as arousal, emotion, attention and memory. While laboratory observations are well documented, it remains unclear whether cognitive effects on perception replicate in real-life settings. This study exploits a set of data collected online during the Covid-19 pandemic, where participants completed verbal working memory (WM) task which their load was manipulated using parametric n-back (1-back, 3-back). At end every WM trial, estimated duration that trial rated speed at they perceived passing. In this within-participant design, we initially tested amount information stored affected opposite directions depending prospectively (i.e., when attend to time) or retrospectively do not time). Second, same hypothesis for felt passage time, may capture distinct phenomenology. Third, examined link between found short durations tended be fast. Last, contrasted two groups individuals out lockdown evaluate impact social isolation. We show estimations were differentially discuss conclude influence various experiences time.
