Entropy-based and fractal-based metrics derived from heart rate variability (HRV) have enriched the way cardiovascular dynamics can be described in terms of complexity. The most commonly used multifractal testing, a method using q moments to explore range fractal scaling small-sized large-sized fluctuations, is based on detrended fluctuation analysis, which examines power–law relationship standard deviation with timescale measured signal. Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) of affect, cognition and behavior aims to provide a ‘window into person’s daily life’. But what should we look for through this window? In paper, compare statistical perspective, grounded in probability theory, with dynamic pattern complexity on two common phenomena EMA data: non-stationarity outlying values. From these are considered nuisances that be dealt with. contrast, may signal transitions from one another (e.g., transition neutral persistent sad mood), whereas values recovery perturbations stressful life events). We evaluated the view triangulation study multiple single cases took part Track your Mood study, where participants reported their emotions events 60 days. found was indeed related transition, were after perturbations. These findings show person-oriented research would benefit perspective can identify highly meaningful clinically relevant otherwise at risk being missed. Complementing time series contextual information qualitative data will essential genuinely understand phenomena.

Long-latency reflexes (LLRs) are critical precursors to intricate postural coordination of muscular adaptations that sustain equilibrium following abrupt disturbances. Both disturbances and adaptive responses reflect excursions control from quiescent Gaussian stability under a narrow bell curve, beyond Gaussianity unfolding at many timescales. LLRs slow with age, accentuating the risk falls undermining dexterity, particularly in settings concurrent additional tasks. We investigated whether wobble board could cultivate engagement selectively healthy young participants executing suprapostural Trail Making Task (TMT). A additional-task demand constituted visual precision predominantly along anteroposterior (AP) axis mechanical instability mainly mediolateral (ML) axis. scrutinized planar center-of-pressure (CoP) trajectories quantify non-Gaussianity across various temporal scales. Wobble increased decreased compensatory adjustments (CPAs), indicated by peak CoP displacements over LLR-specific timescales (50-100 ms) progressively diminishing CPA-specific ([Formula: see text] ms). Engagement TMT did not show any noticeable influence on non-Gaussian sway patterns. Despite aligning unstable participants' ML axis, thus rendering posture more significantly AP reduced CPAs These findings offer initial mechanistic insights into how boards may bolster balance potentially reduce occurrence catalyzing selectively.

The interaction-dominant approach to perception and action, originally formulated in the mid-1990s, has matured gained remarkable momentum as an entailment of dynamical hypotheses proposed at that time. This framework seeks explain fluid intricate interplay causality spanning entire organism by integrating high-dimensional details with low-dimensional constraints across various scales behavior. Both Chemero (2024) Wallot et al. have skillfully explored theoretical implications methodological challenges this perspective introduces. We echo Chemero's al.'s focus on multifractality, while also underscoring new efforts model synergetic relationships cascading dynamics inherent approach.
