Omega-3 fatty acids and fenofibrates have shown some beneficial cardiovascular effects; however, their efficacy has not been compared. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of currently available omega-3 fenofibrate for reducing major adverse events (MACE). From a nationwide population-based cohort in South Korea (2008-2019), individuals with metabolic syndrome (≥30 years) who received statin those receiving were matched by propensity score (n = 39 165 both groups). The primary outcome was MACE, including ischaemic heart disease (IHD), stroke (IS), death from causes. risk MACE lower [hazard ratio (HR), 0.79; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.74-0.83] group than acid group. Fenofibrate associated incidence IHD (HR, 0.72; CI, 0.67-0.77) hospitalization failure 0.90; 0.82-0.97), but IS 0.81-1.00) nor causes 1.07; 0.97-1.17). effect compared prominent patients preexisting atherosclerotic doses (≤2 g per day). In real-world setting, use low-dose when added statins people syndrome.

Obesity is a growing civilization problem, associated with number of negative health consequences affecting almost all tissues and organs. Currently, obesity treatment includes lifestyle modifications (including diet exercise), pharmacologic therapies, in some clinical situations, bariatric surgery. These treatments seem to be the most effective method supporting obesity. However, they are many limitations options, both for practitioners patients. Often comorbidities, cost, age patient, even geographic locations may influence choices. The pharmacotherapy fast-growing market. we have at our disposal drugs various mechanisms action (directly reducing absorption calories-orlistat, acting centrally-bupropion naltrexone, phentermine topiramate, or multidirectional-liraglutide, dulaglutide, semaglutide). whose weight-reducing effect used course other diseases (e.g., glucose-sodium cotransporter inhibitors, exenatide) also worth mentioning. focusing on novel therapeutic agents improved safety efficacy profiles. trends include an assessment usefulness properties previously diseases. presented paper overview studies related currently those undergoing trials, taking into account individual approach patient.

Background: Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) reportedly have protective effects on pancreatic β-cells; however, the underlying mechanisms are unknown. Methods: To investigate cellular mechanism of PUFA-induced cell protection, mouse insulinoma 6 (MIN6) cells were cultured with palmitic acid (PA) and/or docosahexaenoic (DHA), and alterations in signaling apoptosis examined. Results: DHA treatment remarkably repressed caspase-3 cleavage terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated UTP nick end labeling (TUNEL)-positive red dot signals PA-treated MIN6 cells, upregulation autophagy, an increase microtubule- associated protein 1-light chain 3 (LC3)-II, autophagy-related 5 (Atg5), decreased p62. Upstream factors involved autophagy regulation (Beclin-1, unc51 like activating kinase 1 [ULK1], phosphorylated mammalian target rapamycin [mTOR], B) also altered by treatment. specifically induced phosphorylation S2448 mTOR; S2481 decreased. The role G protein-coupled receptor 120 (GPR120) effect was demonstrated using a GPR120 agonist antagonist. Additional AH7614, antagonist, significantly attenuated DHA-induced protection. Taken together, activation protection against PA-induced mediated GPR120/mTOR axis. Conclusion: These findings indicate that has therapeutic β-cells, β-cell may be new research potential pharmacotherapeutic implications

Sarcopenic obesity is a new category of and specific condition sarcopenia. This study aimed to find the relationship basal metabolic rate (BMR) body water distribution with muscle health their prospective roles in screening for sarcopenic The role nutrients such as carbohydrates was further detected. A total 402 elderly subjects were recruited. Body composition estimated by bioelectrical impedance analysis. Sarcopenia defined Asian Working Group 2019. cutoff values determined receiver operating characteristic curve. Mediation analyses performed using SPSS PROCESS. Higher BMR BMR/body surface area (BSA) protective factors against (OR = 0.047, p 0.004; OR 0.035, 0.002) sarcopenia 0.085, 0.001; 0.100, 0.003) people. Low extracellular (ECW)/intracellular (ICW) ECW/total (TBW) negatively correlated skeletal index (SMI). intake dietary people lowest, but obesity, it highest (p 0.023). results moderated mediation model showed that fully mediated positive between SMI, which more obvious population an abnormal distribution. or BMR/BSA had potential predicting higher risk lower ECW/ICW ECW/TBW may benefit health. overconsumption (especially > AMDR) might be factor obesity. Moderate carbohydrate promote SMI regulating elderly.

Asiasarum root and rhizome (Asarum) is commonly used as a diaphoretic. Due to its warm pungent characteristics in traditional Chinese Korean medicine, it considered having the potential prevent disease. The present study investigated effects of Asarum extract on symptoms obesity mice, regulation energy metabolism liver skeletal muscle tissues. In addition, identify molecular targets signaling pathways involved mechanism action obesity, network pharmacological docking analysis was performed. vitro studies demonstrated that significantly increased expression regulators [sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), peroxisome proliferator‑activated receptor γ coactivator 1‑α (PGC1α), nuclear respiratory factor 1, AMP‑activated protein kinase (AMPK) glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4)] myogenic regulatory factors (MyoD, myogenin myosin heavy chain) C2C12 myotubes.
