To ensure sustainable growth, feed-fed aquaculture needs to reduce its reliance on fishmeal and oil. Introducing of novel feeds such as macroalgae, bacteria, yeasts, insects can greatly the need for fish in while maintaining efficiency omega-3 fatty acid profiles. Insects, particularly, efficiently convert organic waste into valuable products, thus reducing management costs replacing soybean meal. The flexibility insect metabolism contribute their potential mass food feed production. However, farming have a global impact, it be economically viable capable supplying products industrial quantities. Extensive research has been conducted explore meal various physiological effects important crustacean species aquaculture. This paper aims summarize relevant literature these topics highlight results experiments with key species.

Comparable and reproducible research is needed to improve Pacific white shrimp (PWS) aquaculture. These experiments typically involve before-and-after measurements of the same individual for paired statistical testing. However, marking with external or internal tags challenging, especially juveniles. A possible alternative rear individually in single-shrimp systems. While such systems may also prevent competitive interactions, PWS are considered social animals rearing negatively affect behavior. Therefore, general goal this study was evaluate effects versus multi-shrimp on survival, growth, welfare juvenile using a randomized controlled trial group sizes one, three, five individuals. We found that kept had higher survival rate, final body weights lengths, longer antennae than groups three five. The incidence eye cataracts not significantly different among groups. Based these results, we conclude has no negative welfare. system could be an marked allow testing experimental trials, when post-larvae specimens.

As the global demand for aquaculture products continues to rise, sustainable and efficient feed sources are crucial industry's growth. Insects have emerged as a promising alternative due their high nutritional content, low environmental impact, potential alleviate overreliance on conventional ingredients. This abstract delves into role of insects in aquaculture, elucidating benefits challenges. offer rich source fats, minerals, proteins, vitamins that meet dietary requirements various aquatic species. Their rapid growth rates ability thrive organic waste contribute eco-friendly nature, reducing burden associated with aqua-feed production. Notably, can be reared substrates, minimizing competition arable land demands wild fish hoards utilized fishmeal construction. However, integrating presents certain hurdles. Standardized production methods, quality control, regulatory frameworks need established ensure consistent safe insect-derived feed. Additionally, understanding impacts insect-based diets health, growth, product is vital. It conclusion hold immense addressing while challenges through collaborative researcher research, sector.

Housefly maggot larvae (HML) have been identified as a potential alternative animal diet for the fattening process of Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis). However, feasibility and impacts HML supplementation require further investigation. The present study evaluated effects dietary on growth indices, nutrient compositions, antioxidant activity, texture profiles edible tissues E. sinensis. results showed that effectively improved hepatic steatosis index both genders sweet amino acid content (except male gonad) (p < 0.05). Additionally, significantly increased total capacity in gonad female muscle For textural properties, feeding adhesiveness muscle, cohesiveness, chewiness, resilience Furthermore, decreased levels equivalent umami concentration gonad, hepatopancreas Conversely, sweetness value hepatopancreas, Our findings indicate could serve viable feed to improve yield change flavor characteristics

Abstract Narrow clawed crayfish, Pontastacus (Astacus) leptodactylus , represents an ecologically and economically valuable freshwater species. Despite the high importance of artificial breeding for conservation purpose aquaculture potential, hatching protocols have not been developed so far in this Further, limited knowledge exists regarding egg incubation, temperature effect on embryonic development, synchronization rate. In present study we investigated increase (from 17 o C to 22 C) effects two different developmental stages P. . Furthermore, primer pairs Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 4 ( FGFR4 ) gene cDNA amplification were successfully designed, characterising first time relation temperatures. Apart from gene, Na+/K+-ATPase α-subunit expression was also explored. Both levels higher embryos closer hatching. Egg incubation at seven days led significant earlier stages. Nevertheless, did affect eggs latter all Temperature therefore probably a promising strategy accelerating crayfish particularly early Specifically, our results indicate that increased influences significantly its Overall, these findings can provide better understanding be employed effective management species, both economic biodiversity retention reasons.

Contaminants are transported into estuaries during rainfall events, impacting the physiology of harvested species, and thereby threatening fisheries sustainability. Decapod crustaceans among most economically important groups from estuaries, but at high risk contaminant exposure. We conducted a systematic review meta-analysis evaluating physiological responses estuarine decapods to contaminants flooding. A total 138 research articles were identified, with global effort corresponding geographic distribution crustacean harvesting. From these studies, 305 acute toxicity values for metals pesticide chemical classes extracted 341 sublethal effect sizes (log-response ratios; LnRRs) calculated using 91 measures across seven response categories. At environmentally relevant concentrations, exposure various metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons consistently elicited negative effects on decapod (LnRR range: -0.67 -0.07). Key processes impacted by included nutritional condition, osmoregulation, oxidative stress defences, acetylcholinesterase activity, metabolism growth -0.73 -0.1), general trend greater later in ontogeny. With new agricultural industrial chemicals continually being marketed, our highlights need regulatory testing species prior registration use catchment areas. Under future climatic variability, may be increasingly exposed contaminants, implications food security.
