Biology is characterized by abstract and complex material, so most biology topics rely heavily on laboratory practicum activities. However, not all schools have adequate infrastructure. With the development of technology, virtual laboratories can be used as an alternative to overcome limitations real infrastructures. The lack of introduction and habituation to using interactive media in learning can cause students have low technological literacy. Genetics is the essence of biology because it underlies various other fields life sciences, so studying genetics essential, especially for undergraduate students.However, students often need help understanding several concepts in genetics.Thus, this study aimed to track most difficult from students.This used a survey research design involving 212 taking course at Malang State University, Indonesia.The instrument was essay questions about learning, with descriptive analysis as data technique.The results showed that experience difficulties some genetic concepts, evidenced by their low acquisition conceptual knowledge.The average value students' concept knowledge are considered problematic, namely 1) translation (m=20), 2) post-transcriptional modification and code (m=21), 3) DNA replication (m=22), 4) rate mutation living things, principle detecting mutations process which repair occurs (m=29), 5) structure RNA material (m=36), 6) transcription things (m=39).This concluded improving necessary these complex concepts.Therefore, future should develop effective learning strategies, engaging media, more relevant teaching materials.
