The Rise of Artificial Intelligence in Project Management: A Systematic Literature Review of Current Opportunities, Enablers, and Barriers

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has transformed the landscape of project management contributed significantly to improving efficiency, decision-making optimizing resource allocation. Although there exists a number research examining integration utilization AI ML into management, fragmented literature highlights need for systematic review consolidate current knowledge, identify emerging trends, examine AI’s role in management. This study aims critically analyze existing opportunities for, enablers of, barriers adoption, providing comprehensive framework guide future practice. A (SLR) following PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items Systematic reviews Meta-Analyses) guidelines revealed three key themes: The Knowledge Ecosystem Project Management: In Era AI, Intersection Humanity Management, Integrating Management Landscaping. findings highlight transformative effects on forecasting accuracy, risk mitigation, stakeholder collaboration, safety while addressing challenges such as with legacy systems, data quality issues, resistance change. presents valuable insights both researchers practitioners, facilitating navigation adoption barriers, capitalizing enablers, unlocking potential reshape practices across industries.
