A scoping review of the feasibility, usability, and efficacy of digital interventions in older adults concerning physical activity and/or exercise

Background:
The
global
population
is
aging,
leading
to
significant
health
challenges
among
older
adults,
such
as
reduced
muscle
mass,
increased
risks
of
dementias,
and
chronic
diseases.
Physical
activity
(PA)
crucial
for
maintaining
wellbeing
in
this
demographic,
yet
participation
tends
decrease
with
age
due
various
barriers.
Digital
technologies,
including
mobile
(mHealth)
interventions,
show
promise
promoting
PA
though
their
adoption
remains
limited
intrinsic
extrinsic
challenges.
Objectives
This
scoping
review
aimed
systematically
map
existing
evidence
on
digital
interventions
assessing
feasibility,
usability,
efficacy,
whilst
providing
recommendations
future
research
practice.
Eligibility
criteria

investigations
concerning
adults
(≥60
years
age)
focusing
physical
and/or
exercise
were
considered.

electronic
databases
[MEDLINE,
CINAHL
Ultimate,
Scopus
Cochrane
Central
Register
Controlled
Trials
(CENTRAL)]
searched.
Methods
A

BACKGROUND
College
students
commonly
struggle
with
procrastination,
which

linked
to
mental
health
complaints
and
poor
academic
performance.
Guided
e-health
interventions
can
be
effective
in
reducing
procrastination.
OBJECTIVE
This
study
aims
examine
the
feasibility
acceptability
of
a
new
intervention
targeting
procrastination
for
college
('GetStarted')
guidance
by
student
e-coaches.
METHODS
We
conducted
single-arm
study.
Primary
outcomes
are
satisfaction
(CSQ-8),
usability,
(SUS-10)
adherence
(completion
rate).
Secondary
changes
(IPS),
depression
(PHQ-9),
stress
(PSS-10),
quality
life
(MHQoL)
e-coaching
(WAI-I).
RESULTS
Of
734
participants
that
started
intervention,
335
(45.6%)
completed
post-test.
Students
report
being
satisfied

find
it
very
usable
(SUS-10

Regarding
adherence,
36.65%
intervention.
On
average
68.95%
Participants
showed
significant
decrease

CONCLUSIONS
The
internet-based,
student-guided
'GetStarted'
appears
acceptable
feasible

psychological
problems.
Given
highly
dangerous
nature
mental
illnesses
and
increasingly
serious
state
global
health,
it
is
imperative
for
us
to
explore
new
methods
approaches
concerning
prevention
treatment
illnesses.
Large
multimodal
models
(LMMs),
as
advanced
artificial
intelligence
(i.e.
ChatGPT-4),
have
brought
hope
accurate
prevention,
diagnosis,
psychiatric
disorders.
The
assistance
these
in
promotion
health
critical,
latter
necessitates
a
strong
foundation
medical
knowledge
professional
skills,
emotional
support,
stigma
mitigation,
encouragement
more
honest
patient
self-disclosure,
reduced
care
costs,
improved
efficiency,
greater
service
coverage.
However,
must
address
challenges
related
safety,
hallucinations,
ethics
simultaneously.
In
future,
we
should
developing
relevant
usage
manuals,
accountability
rules,
legal
regulations;
implementing
human-centered
approach;
intelligently
upgrading
LMMs
through
deep
optimization
such
models,
their
algorithms,
other
means.
This
effort
will
thus
substantially
contribute
not
only
maintenance
students’
but
also
achievement
sustainable
development
goals.
