Extrapulmonary tuberculosis in Western Sudan during the armed conflict 2023-2024 DOI Open Access

Background: Tuberculosis represents one of the foremost infectious cause mortality globally; disease is endemic in Sudan and has experienced a significant increase amid ongoing armed conflict. This study aims to investigate extrapulmonary tuberculosis Western during conflict period from 2023 2024. Methodology: A descriptive retrospective was conducted at El-Obeid Teaching Hospital North Kordofan State, Sudan, August September on 233 patients diagnosed with total 751 tuberculous infections. The collected all data related hospital records specified 15 April coverage within designated time frame, irrespective any inclusion or exclusion criteria. Results: revealed that 65% were males 35% females. most prevalent age group > 46, followed by < 18, 26-35, 36-45, incidence rates 37%, 18%, 17%, 13%, respectively. majority (59%) lived urban areas, while 41% rural areas.63% them married, single. Tuberculous lymphadenitis type tuberculosis, pleuritis, abdominal TB, spinal pericarditis, TB meningitis (39%, 28%, 14%, 12%, 5%, 2%, respectively). Conclusion: Extrapulmonary widespread western pleuritis being common manifestations disease. indicates greater values than what previously recorded world. In primarily affects middle-aged males, cases presented beyond 2 months period. near-collapsed economy, inadequately equipped health system, detrimental effects primary factors study's findings.
