“It happened to be the perfect thing”: experiences of generative AI chatbots for mental health

Abstract
The
global
mental
health
crisis
underscores
the
need
for
accessible,
effective
interventions.
Chatbots
based
on
generative
artificial
intelligence
(AI),
like
ChatGPT,
are
emerging
as
novel
solutions,
but
research
real-life
usage
is
limited.
We
interviewed
nineteen
individuals
about
their
experiences
using
AI
chatbots
health.
Participants
reported
high
engagement
and
positive
impacts,
including
better
relationships
healing
from
trauma
loss.

themes:

of
‘
emotional
sanctuary’

insightful
guidance’

relationships,

Abstract
Purpose
Artificial
intelligence
(AI)-powered
large
language
models
(LLMs)
are
being
increasingly
utilized
in
healthcare,
yet
their
ability
to
deliver
accurate,
guideline-consistent
information
oncology
survivorship
care
remains
insufficiently
evaluated.
This
study
assessed
the
performance
of
ChatGPT-4,
ChatGPT
Strawberry,
and
Gemini
providing
evidence-based
responses
related
domains
including
nutrition,
exercise,
mental
health,
long-term
effects
cancer
treatment.
Methods
A
set
predefined
questions
on
was
submitted
each
LLM.
Two
independent
evaluators
using
five
quality
metrics:
clarity,
coherence,
completeness,
factual
accuracy,
relevance.
Inter-rater
reliability
calculated
Cohen’s

CounseLLMe
as
a
multilingual,
multimodal
dataset
of
400
simulated
mental
health
counselling
dialogues
between
two
state-of-the-art
Large
Language
Models
(LLMs).

conversations
-
20
quips
each
were
generated
either
in
English
(using
OpenAI's
GPT
3.5
and
Claude-3's
Haiku)
or
Italian
(with
Haiku
LLaMAntino)
with
prompts
tuned
