Understanding the dynamics of swine health, including mortality rates during critical stages development, is essential for improving overall productivity. The aim this study was an examination pig farms, focusing on performance metrics such as litter size, among different age groups, and weight changes throughout production cycle. three farrowto-finish farms from South Backa District were selected based their willingness to participate provide accurate records. statistical analysis, one-way ANOVA post hoc tests, provided further evidence significant differences in specific metrics. By analyzing results study, it could be concluded importance optimizing breeding, feeding, health management strategies enhance efficiency.

Reproductive failure has significant socioeconomic impacts on smallholder pig farms. This systematic review was conducted to compile the types of reproductive failures and their underlying causes reported in farms from East Southeast Asia identify relevant knowledge gaps. Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, 26 peer-reviewed studies met eligibility criteria were included our synthesis. These 11 countries, with Vietnam, China, Thailand representing highest share (53.8%). Only six (23%) investigated as primary objective. Stillbirth, mummification, late-term abortion, weak-born piglets predominant across region. The most frequently cited viral pathogens associated these porcine respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) circovirus type 2 (PCV-2). Common non-infectious risk factors extreme climate conditions (e.g., heat stress), poor diet housing, suboptimal boar management. Our synthesis highlighted a dearth research focused region emphasised need more targeted clarify biological, environmental, managerial contributing failure. will facilitate development prevention control measures that account unique farming challenges face Asia.

Streptococcus suis is a common germ in pig populations, with high carrier rates. Recent studies identify it as an emerging zoonotic pathogen, particularly Southeast Asia, where raw pork traditionally consumed. Data on infection Europe, especially Eastern European countries like Romania, are limited. Our study reviewed data from infectious diseases tertiary hospital Bucharest between 2001 and 2024, including eight patients diagnosed invasive infection. The median age was 53.3 years, male-to-female ratio 3:1. Three had risk factors such contact pigs or handling fresh pork. Seven were initially meningitis one endocarditis. During hospitalization, additional endocarditis case identified among the patients. Laboratory samples indicated bacterial infection, isolated CSF six cases blood cultures two cases. All strains tested susceptible to beta-lactam antibiotics, but resistant lincosamides macrolides. There no deaths, half of our experienced severe meningitis-related sequelae, mainly hearing loss. Clinicians should be aware etiologic agent non-endemic areas (contact pigs, pork).

Abstract Pig manure (PM) is crucial for animal protein production, especially in Brazil, where pork widely consumed. However, managing waste remains a challenge. While PM serves as soil amendment, it may also introduce potentially toxic elements (PTEs), such heavy metals, into agricultural soils. Few studies address the impact of long-term application on availability these metals at various depths. This study analysed copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) soils with prolonged use Florestal (FL), Pará de Minas (PDM), São José da Varginha (SJV), Brazil. Samples were collected from six depths using Mehlich-1 method, element concentrations determined via atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Data ANOVA Duncan’s test (5% probability). The results showed that had higher levels Cu Zn, Cd elevated only PDM. Fe Mn no significant differences, whilst Pb was FL PDM without PM. increased Zn but did not significantly affect other elements. In conclusion, elevates soils, posing potential risks toxicity. Public policies are needed to regulate usage, reduce pollution, promote sustainable management environmental health.

The objectives of this study were to characterize the biosecurity practices implemented on pig farms in Hong Kong and determine between-farm prevalence economically important viral pathogens. All active (n = 40) invited participate an interview-based survey using a Biocheck-UGent™ questionnaire evaluate their practices. Pen-level oral fluid samples collected by cotton ropes detect six target pathogens RT-PCR: porcine reproductive respiratory virus (PRRSV), circovirus type-2 (PCV-2), swine influenza (SIV), delta-coronavirus (PDCoV), epidemic diarrhea (PEDV), transmissible gastroenteritis (TGEV). Eighteen (45 %) accepted our invitation participated study. Biosecurity found be inadequate many areas, with average overall score 50.1 ± 9.4 (mean SD). scored higher for external (56.4 8.6) than internal (43.9 12.1). Among subcategories, breeding semen purchase highest (93.2), while visitors farmworkers lowest (23.5). In biosecurity, disease management subcategory received (66.7). Only two farm location (70) exceeded global scores. Key deficiencies identified protocols workers, hygiene standards feed, water, equipment supplies, measures prevent transmission between compartments (farrowing, nursery, finishing units). Over 90 % participating vaccination programs PRRSV, PCV-2, parvovirus (PPV), pseudorabies (PRV), classical fever (CSFV) no vaccinated against SIV, coronaviruses was sporadic. viruses except TGEV detected at level. prevalences among 18 PRRSV-2 (94.4 %), PRRSV-1 (38.9 PCV-2 (83.3 SIV (55.6 PDCoV (16.7 PEDV (5.6 %). This study investigated the spatiotemporal dynamics, regional disparities, and spatial spillover effects of carbon emissions in China’s livestock sector from 2003 to 2022. By integrating accounting, decoupling elasticity analysis, kernel density estimation, Theil index decomposition, Spatial Durbin Model, research revealed a 6.5% reduction national alongside intensified polarization. The relationship evolved dynamically, with strong dominating but fluctuations persisting, particularly resource-dependent areas. distribution emission intensity shifted unimodal right-skewness bimodal concentration, indicating technological diffusion barriers structural divergence across regions. econometric analysis confirmed significant interdependence (ρ = 0.214, p < 0.01), where neighboring economic growth increased local intensity. These findings highlighted limitations uniform policy approaches emphasized need for region-specific governance, market-based incentives, localized innovation. provided empirical evidence framework address cross-regional coordination sustainable low-carbon transitions agriculture.
