Abstract Drawing on digital sensory ethnographic research with potters during the Covid-19 pandemic in Britain, along literature clay therapy, this paper explores how engagements afford hedonic psychological wellbeing impacts. Adopting an embodied-enactive-ecological approach, we utilise Material Engagement Theory (MET) and concept of therapeutic affordances to challenge internalist cognitive approaches argue for active role material shaping our affective states. We that clay’s materiality is central such impacts arises relationally through interactions between specific individuals, materials, their environment. This discusses tactile, cohesive, malleable clay, as well variability it can be engaged, allows mindful, immersive relaxing experiences, positively contributed participants. Additionally, examine potter evolve development skill, affordance space changes. Particularly, highlight complex nature control respect volatility pottery; explore tension desire pressures skilful production, analyse enjoyment processes making, discuss permeability distinctions eudemonic wellbeing.
