Comprehensive Summary The production of chemicals using carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) as the one‐carbon source is a sustainable strategy for organic synthesis. Herein, we report an unprecedented rhodium‐catalyzed, carboxyl‐directed aryl C−H carboxylation benzoic acids with CO under redox‐neutral conditions to afford valuable phthalic acids. In addition, this method could be modified benzamides by different N ‐heterocyclic carbene ligand produce phthalimides, demonstrating versatility protocol.

Abstract Carbon dioxide is a significant greenhouse gas and reducing carbon emissions to mitigate global warming poses major challenge. The efficient utilization of as resource requires the development effective straightforward synthetic strategies for C–C bond transformations. Recent studies have focused on transition-metal-catalyzed coupling reactions with soft nucleophiles such alkynes, conjugated dienes, various unsaturated hydrocarbons, demonstrating formation carboxylic acids. This article describes fixation hydrocarbons promoted by Ni Cu catalysts that we recently developed. Notably, these feature highly regio- stereoselective facilitated key intermediates involving organometalloids.
