Background Given the absence of specific pharmacological treatments for sarcopenia, identifying effective lifestyle and dietary interventions is imperative. This study aims to explore association between composite antioxidant index (CDAI) offering new insights into nutritional strategies sarcopenia-prone populations. Methods cross-sectional analysed secondary data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey cycles spanning 2001–2006 2011–2018. Weighted multivariate logistic regression restricted cubic spline (RCS) analyses were employed evaluate non-linear CDAI sarcopenia perform stratified analyses. Results In this study, encompassing 19 683 American adults, representative national population 132 140 502 residents, 7.97% diagnosed with sarcopenia. Across all adjusted models, a higher was inversely associated risk (OR 0.94, 95% CI 0.92, 0.96; P <0.0001). The highest quartile scores those in lowest revealed significantly reduced odds 0.46, 0.38, 0.56; RCS analysis demonstrated relationship Additionally, indicated that inverse more pronounced among participants educational levels tumours. Conclusions There negative prevalence suggesting may help managing preventing occurrence

Background/Objectives: Alterations of oxysterols and gut microbiota have been recognized as indicators affecting mild cognitive impairment (MCI) sarcopenia, respectively, whereas their association with co-dysfunction has not investigated. Methods: In this study, a total 1035 individuals were divided into Control (n = 264), MCI 435), possible sarcopenia (MPS, n 336) groups. Cognition muscle indexes, serum oxysterols, measured. Spearman's rank coefficients calculated to determine correlations. Results: Performances global multidimensional tests was successively worse in the Control, MCI, MPS Longer duration five-time chair stand test, lower 6-meter walk speed, handgrip strength observed group, along increased 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OHC) 5α,6α-epoxycholesterol decreased 5α-Cholest-8(14)-ene-3β,15α-diol (15-HC). Higher concentrations amyloid precursor protein (APP), neurofilament, C-terminal agrin fragment (CAF) discovered The α-diversity group remarkably decreased, followed by shifted abundance microbial taxa, such Alistipes Rikenellaceae. Multiple significant correlations found between cognition indexes oxysterols. Conclusions: Our study indicates that are prominently involved muscle.

Objective This study examined the longitudinal reciprocal association between handgrip strength and cognitive function temporal sequence of changes in both factors a national cohort Chinese older adults. Method Data were derived from 3 waves (2011 baseline 2013, 2015 follow-up) China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Participants those with no memory-related disorders at follow-up, who had complete data. Handgrip least 1 hand was measured all waves. The highest recorded value during test used as outcome measurement. Mental intactness episodic memory to assess overall each wave data collection. Cross-lagged panel models examine relationship cognition over time. Results A total 2550 participants included analysis. Age 60-83 years, 43.9% female (n = 1120). 5.7% weak muscle 145), slightly lower than normal group. Cross-lag analysis showed that scores predicted subsequent strength. At same time, scores. results remained robust after accounting for confounding factors. Conclusion There bidirectional correlation elderly individuals. Future studies should determine whether interventions improve (e.g., strength) might slow development other function).

As the global aging process accelerates, health challenges posed by sarcopenia among middle-aged and older adults are becoming increasingly prominent. However, available evidence on adverse effects of air pollution is limited, particularly in Western Pacific region. This study aimed to explore relationships multiple pollutants with related biomarkers using nationally representative database.

Aim Respiratory sarcopenia (RS) has been newly defined in a position paper by four professional organizations Japan, and it is necessary to examine its incidence influencing factors using this new definition. So far, little work undertaken; we therefore conducted longitudinal study fill gap. Methods Our data were extracted from the China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study. A total of 4301 older adults with complete without RS chosen 2011, whom 3065 followed up until 2015. The presence low respiratory muscle strength plus appendicular skeletal muscles mass was as based on t. logistic regression model used identify for incident RS. Results After an average 4 years follow‐up, cumulative 5.2%, particularly high participants aged >80 (20.9%). Logistic analysis showed that being unmarried/divorced/widowed (odds ratio [OR] = 1.85, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.28–2.66, P 0.001), not having dyslipidemia (OR 0.35, CI 0.19–0.65, digestive disease 1.56, 1.11–2.19, 0.010), asthma 2.77, 1.55–4.94, edentulism 1.73, 1.24–2.42, handgrip 2.82, 1.99–3.99, < or 5‐m gait speed 1.92, 1.23–3.01, 0.004) associated greater likelihood developing further adjustment age body index, asthma, edentulism, remained significant. Conclusions identification management described above could be important preventing Geriatr Gerontol Int 2024; ••: ••–•• .
