Noninvasive focused ultrasound (FUS) has been applied in the treatment of various targets. Neuromodulation using FUS is emerging as a promising therapeutic modality for central nerve system (CNS) with advantages deep penetration and precise targeting brain. This technique can also be to peripheral (PNS). The principle mechanisms neromodulation on PNS are summarized. Current experimental observations targets introduced show their effects. Discussion limitations perspectives this technology illustrates pros cons future development. provides noninvasive, safe, effective neurotherapeutics. Although relevant research much less than that CNS, limited studies have already shown satisfactory performance comparison FDA-approved implanted device, especially vagus stimulation (VNS). Wide applications clinics fast development expected near future.

Transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) is a promising non-invasive neuromodulation modality, characterized by deep-brain accuracy and the capability to induce longer-lasting effects. However, most TUS datasets are underpowered, hampering efforts identify longevity temporal dynamics. This primate case was studied awake with over 50 fMRI datasets, without left anterior hippocampus TUS. We therefore amassed highest-powered dataset date required reveal Most of effects were found in region itself alongside default mode sensorimotor networks. Seed-based functional connectivity exhibited time-constrained alteration which dissipated ∼60 min post-TUS. Intrinsic activity measure regional homogeneity displayed extended diffusivity longer durations. high-powered allowed predicting using pre-stimulation features that can now extend modeling individuals scanned less extensively. report reveals diversity dynamics help advance long-lasting human applications.
