Semilunar Granule Cells (SGCs) are sparse dentate gyrus projection neurons whose role in the circuit, including pathway specific inputs, remains unknown. We report that SGCs receive more frequent spontaneous excitatory synaptic inputs than granule cells (GCs). Dual GC-SGC recordings identified stronger medial entorhinal cortex and associational drive but lack short-term facilitation of lateral observed GCs. dendritic spine density proximal middle dendrites was greater However, strength commissural input integration, examined passive morphometric simulations, were not different between cell types. Activity dependent labeling an overrepresentation among neuronal ensembles both mice trained a spatial memory task naïve controls. The divergence modality to GCs can enable parallel processing information streams expand computational capacity gyrus.
