Memories are not perfect recordings of the past and can be subject to systematic biases. Memory distortions often caused by our experience what typically happens in a given situation. However, it is unclear whether memory for events biased knowledge that usually have predictable structure (a beginning, middle, an end). Using video clips everyday situations, we tested how interrupting at unexpected time points affects those ended. In four free recall experiments (1, 2, 4, 5), found just before salient piece action was completed, resulted false details about clip might We refer this as "event extension." On other hand, after one scene had ended new started, omissions true ending (Experiments 4 5). these effects were present, albeit attenuated, when testing shortly watching compared week later 5a 5b). The event extension effect present with recognition paradigm (Experiment 3). Overall, conclude people watch videos violate their expectations typical structure, they show bias if boundary, exhibiting or omission depending on where original interrupted. Negative anticipatory biases can affect the way we interpret and subjectively experience events. Through its role in emotion regulation, positive future thinking may provide an accessible to attenuate these biases. However, it is unclear whether works ubiquitously, independent of contextual relevance. Here, used a intervention (task-relevant; task-irrelevant control condition) prior social stress task adapt this was experienced. We assessed subjective objective measures also recorded resting state electroencephalography (EEG) assess related differences level frontal delta-beta coupling, which considered neurobiological substrate regulation. Results show that reduced anxiety, increased fixation behavior performance, but only if task-relevant. Paradoxically, thoughts enhanced negative perceptual reactivity. This increase reactivity corroborated by elevated levels coupling during event anticipation, suggests demand for Together, findings mitigate emotional, behavioral consequences stressful event, should not be applied indiscriminately.

Understanding and remembering the complex experiences of everyday life relies critically on prior schematic knowledge about how events in our world unfold over time. How does brain construct event representations from a library scripts, activating specific script impact way that are segmented time? We developed novel set 16 audio narratives, each which combines one four location-relevant scripts (restaurant, airport, grocery store, lecture hall) with socially-relevant (breakup, proposal, business deal, meet cute), presented them to participants an fMRI study separate online study. Responses angular gyrus, parahippocampal subregions medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) were driven by both location social information, showing these regions can track sequences multiple domains. For some stories primed attend two training listen for remember script-relevant episodic details. Activating location-related shifted timing subjective boundaries align changes this behavioral shift was mirrored neural responses, mPFC (identified using Hidden Markov Model) aligning rather than when primed. Our findings demonstrate dynamics actively modulated top-down goals, provide new insight into narrative constructed through activation temporally-structured knowledge.

Individuals aged ≥65 yr will comprise ∼20% of the global population by 2030. Cardiovascular disease remains leading cause death in world with age-related endothelial “dysfunction” as a key risk factor. As an organ and itself, vascular endothelium courses throughout mammalian body to coordinate blood flow all other organs tissues (e.g., brain, heart, lung, skeletal muscle, gut, kidney, skin) accord metabolic demand. In turn, emerging evidence demonstrates that aging its comorbidities neurodegeneration, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, heart failure, cancer) are “channelopathies” large part. With emphasis on distinct functional traits common arrangements across major systems, present literature review encompasses regulation ion channels underlie control body. The myoendothelial coupling local versus conducted signaling discussed new perspectives for development chronic diseases. Although equipped awareness knowledge gaps field, section has been included encompass general feasibility, role biological sex, additional conceptual experimental considerations cell regression proliferation, gene profile analyses). ultimate goal is reader see understand points deterioration function while gaining ability think potential mechanistic therapeutic strategies sustain perfusion whole health aging.
