Scientific cooperation on an international level has been well studied in the literature. However, much less is known about this intercontinental level. In paper, we address issue by creating a collection of approximately 13.8×106 publications around papers one highly cited authors working complex networks and their applications. The obtained rank-frequency distribution probability sequences describing continents number countries—with which are affiliated—follows power law with exponent −1.9108(15). Such dependence literature as Zipf’s law, it originally observed linguistics; later, turned out that very commonly various fields. distinct “continent (number countries)” function analyzed grows according to 0.527(14); i.e., follows Heap’s law.

Across many fields, scenario modeling has become an important tool for exploring long-term projections and how they might depend on potential interventions critical uncertainties, with relevance to both decision makers scientists. In the past decade, especially during COVID-19 pandemic, field of epidemiology seen substantial growth in use projections. Multiple scenarios are often projected at same time, allowing comparisons that can guide choice intervention, prioritization research topics, or public communication. We have been following Coronavirus (COVID-19) the beginning in each country. Abstract The studies of international scientific cooperation have been present in the literature since early 1990s. However, much less is known about this at intercontinental level. Very recently Krawczyk and Malarz (Chaos 33(11):111102, 2023), showed that rank-based probability distribution sequences ‘continents (number countries)’ authors’ affiliations shows a clear power law with an exponent close to 1.9. In paper, we focus on analysis almost 14 million papers. Based their authors, created lists ‘continent countries)’—at level—and ‘country authors)’ sequences—at analysed them terms frequency. contrast level, reveals broken distribution.

Development of Accurate Long-lead COVID-19 Forecast DOI Creative Commons

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) will likely remain a major public health burden; accurate forecast of COVID-19 epidemic outcomes several months into the future is needed to support more proactive planning. Here, we propose strategies address three challenges, i.e., error growth, emergence new variants, and infection seasonality. Using these in combination generate retrospective predictions cases deaths 6 for 10 representative US states. Tallied over >25,000 through September 2022, approach using all consistently outperformed baseline without across different variant waves locations, targets. Overall, probabilistic accuracy improved by 64% 38% point prediction 133% 87% deaths, respectively. Real-time 6-month lead made early October 2022 suggested large attack rates most states but lower burden than previous during -March 2023; are general compared reported data. The superior skill methods developed here demonstrate means generating long-lead possibly other infectious diseases.
