Abstract Insects have developed a variety of sex-determining regulatory mechanisms throughout their evolution. In this study, we analyzed differentially expressed genes (DEG) from the ovary and testis transcriptomes ofAthetis dissimilis. A total 11065 (DEGs) between males females were identified, which 6685 up-regulated 4380 down-regulated in females. AAdistra-2(525 bp) gene was obtained transcriptome ofA. dissimilis, sequence alignment with other related species revealed highly conserved RRM domain. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Adistra-2 protein is close relative lepidopterous tra-2 protein. The qRT-PCR theAdistra-2temporal spatial expression pattern it more abundant during embryonic development than stages, its higher ovaries testes. This work provides theoretical reference for sex differentiation genetic manipulation insect.

Abstract Early life conditions can have long-lasting fitness effects on organisms. In insects, crowding during larval stages impose a significant constraint adult phenotypes due to increased intraspecific competition for resources, which modulate males’ success in pre- and post-mating adulthood. Evidence male seminal fluid allocation exists but is limited small subset of well-known proteins (Sfps), often overlooks the interactions between female phenotypes. We currently lack comprehensive understanding how interact affect production, composition, transfer wider proteome. Here, we manipulated Drosophila melanogaster (low versus high) males females generate individuals with large body size, respectively. mated fully factorial design, measured abundance, Sfps. Large produced Sfps significantly higher abundances, yet this difference was marginal not detected when were analysed individually. Chemosensation is important for the survival and reproduction of animals. The odorant binding proteins (OBPs) are thought to be involved in chemosensation together with chemosensory receptors. While OBPs were initially considered deliver hydrophobic odorants olfactory receptors aqueous lymph solution, recent studies suggest more complex roles various organs. Here, we use

Genes involved in reproduction often evolve rapidly due to postcopulatory sexual selection (PCSS) driven by male-male competition and male-female conflict, but the impact of PCSS on gene expression has been under-explored. Further, though multiple tissues contribute male reproductive success, most studies have focused testes. To explore influence mating system variation Peromyscus tract, we generated RNAseq libraries quantified testis, seminal vesicle, epididymis, liver wild-caught monogamous P. californicus polygynandrous boylii maniculatus males tested for positive relaxed Peromyscus-expressed genes using published rodent genomes. We identified 3,627 mating-system associated differentially expressed (MS-DEGs), where shifted same direction relative californicus. Gene was strongly with behavior vesicles, 89% were MS-DEGs, including two key fluid proteins, Svs2 Pate4. Though showing evidence or differential did not overlap, 203 MS-DEGs showed selection. Aedes albopictus is a major arbovirus vector with small stagnant water containers being its oviposition sites. Mosquitoes search for these sites based on their olfactory cues (odor and moisture emanating from the at site), visual (size color of gustatory (ion nutrient concentration in that water). The mechanism through which mosquitoes remains unknown.

Abstract In the organisms with XX/XY sex chromosomes, Y chromosome is unique to males and plays an important role in male reproductive development. The study of genes will contribute development pest genetic prevention control technology. this study, we identified 9 Zeugodacus tau (Diptera: Tephritidae), including gene 16222 . Protein structure analysis showed that was highly similar odorant binding protein, thus named obp‐Y Obp‐Y knockout (KO) significantly reduced hatching rate offspring. Sperm detection results KO did not affect sperm number testes or transfer during mating. We further examined storage sperms females, found females mating wild‐type began from spermathecal ducts spermathecae at hour 0 after end (AEM), 0–24 h AEM, count gradually increased. However, no were observed mutant hours 0, 4, 8, 24 48 AEM. summary, revealed necessary for females. Our findings only provide theoretical basis elucidating function chromosome, but also offer a molecular target over Z.

In many insect species, the ability of males to inhibit their mates from remating is an important component fitness. This also essential for effective management pests, including tephritid fruit flies, using Sterile Insect Technique. Here we apply transcriptomics and proteomics male reproductive tissues before after mating characterize components semen that might mediate inhibition in Queensland fly. We found 144 genes whose transcripts were enriched, or proteins expressed, tissue which varied amount mating. Some associated with testes, accessory glands ejaculatory apodeme, but those apodeme over-represented compared not enriched responsive. These included 13 related clustered within one Mb on chromosome 5. Functional annotations implicated a broad range biochemical processes genes/proteins responsive, cuticle structure most commonly among subset these apodeme-enriched kinase involved vitellogenesis genes. did find homolog much studied Drosophila melanogaster Sex Peptide comparative genomics indicated some tissue-enriched, responsive rapidly evolving tephritids (including fly lineage), suggesting recent adaptation new functional niches. Our results provide set candidate mediators further testing.
