Background/Objectives: Aurochs (Bos primigenius), one of the earliest and largest herbivores domesticated by humans, were widely distributed in Eurasia North Africa during Pleistocene Holocene. Studies aurochs China have focused mainly on Northeastern region. Previous studies suggested that haplogroup C is a unique to China, but recent shown this not case. We compiled all data revisit classification C. Methods: In study, we obtained 13 nearly complete mitochondrial genomes from Late early Holocene bovine samples through fossil sample collection, ancient DNA extraction, library construction, high-throughput sequencing. Based acquired combination with previously published data, phylogenetic status, lineage divergence time, population dynamics analyzed. Results: Phylogenetic analyses time estimations suggest current definition overly inclusive, necessitating refined reclassification haplogroup. also estimated using Bayesian skyline plots found maternal effective size increased significantly Marine Isotope Stage 5 (MIS5), began decrease second half MIS3 before they eventually became extinct. Conclusions: Our results provide new molecular evidence China.
