Background/Aims: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has significantly impacted global health, exacerbated metabolic health issues, and altered lifestyle behaviors. This study examined the sex-specific impact of COVID-19 outbreak on incidence syndrome using data from Korea National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES).Methods: Data KNHANES VII (2018) VIII (2019–2021), including 15,499 participants, were analyzed. population was stratified by sex, further subdivisions conducted based timeframe relative to outbreak. Variables such as age, education level, household income, smoking status, high-risk drinking analyzed assess their influence prevalence syndrome. Results: overall increased 28.11% before 29.69% after Both males females reported significant increases in waist circumference fasting glucose levels. Age level differentially influenced between sex. Smoking associated with males, whereas decreased females. Conclusions: notable differences. These findings highlight need for public interventions mitigate health.

The association between obesity and young-onset dementia (YOD, defined as diagnosed before age 65) is established, but the specific impact of abdominal in women remains unclear. Abdominal obesity, driven by excess visceral fat, may increase risk through metabolic vascular pathways. We investigated YOD using a large nationwide cohort. analyzed 964,536 Korean aged 40-60 years who underwent national health checkups 2009. General was body mass index (BMI), categorized waist circumference (WC) into < 75 cm, 76-84 85-94 ≥ 95 cm. identified ICD-10 codes medication prescriptions. Hazard ratios (HRs) for were estimated multivariable Cox proportional hazard models adjusted lifestyle clinical factors. Over median follow-up 8.2 years, incidence increased progressively with higher WC. Women WC cm had 55% (HR 1.55; 95% CI 1.34-1.79) compared to those particularly strong (VD), HR 1.83 (95% 1.30-2.57). By contrast, BMI showed U-shaped relationship, lowest observed normal (18.5-22.9 kg/m²), significantly elevated risks both underweight (BMI 18.5 kg/m²; 1.39, 1.13-1.71) morbidly obese 30 1.26, 1.10-1.45). significant, independent factor women, VD. These findings underscore importance addressing middle-aged reduce risk.

Due to increased life expectancy and lifestyle changes, the prevalence of diabetes among elderly in Korea is continuously rising, as associated public health burden. Diabetes management patients complicated by age-related physiological sarcopenia characterized loss muscle mass function, comorbidities, varying levels functional, cognitive, mobility abilities that lead frailty. Moreover, with frequently face multiple chronic conditions elevate their risk cardiovascular diseases, cancer, mortality; they are also prone complications such hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe hypoglycemia. This review examines characteristics approaches for elderly, advocates a comprehensive yet personalized strategy.

In East Asians, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is primarily characterized by significant defects in insulin secretion and comparatively low resistance. Recently, the prevalence of T2DM has rapidly increased Asian countries, including Korea, occurring concurrently with rising obesity rates. This trend led to an increase average body mass index among patients, highlighting influence resistance development within this group. Currently, incidence Korea declining, which may indicate potential adaptive changes secretory capacity. review focuses on changing epidemiology Asia, a particular emphasis characteristics peak functional β-cell mass.
