Chronic pain is common with aging. Yet, little known about the attitudes, beliefs, and experiences of older adults chronic regarding opioids, particularly in regard to effects on daily functioning cognition. This qualitative analysis employed semi-structured interviews 25 community-dwelling current or recent prescription opioid use. Interviews focused perceptions, living pain, use impact opioids control, cognition, function. Older display adaptability acceptance desire person-centered care, approach risks-benefits regards cognition differently, perceive stigma as a barrier effective partnership clinicians.

Opioid dependence is a serious public health concern, particularly for older individuals who have high prevalence of comorbid conditions. To effectively manage opioid use disorder (OUD), methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) crucial; however, the MMT poses certain challenges aging population. The purpose this review to evaluate impact on outcomes, identify predictive factors mortality, and assess mortality rates among receiving MMT. A systematic search was performed across databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Web Science, Google Scholar, adhering Preferred Reporting Items Systematic reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Studies included were published between January 2000 December 2023, focused elderly patients (60 years age older) provided information death rates. total 15 studies examined. main causes overdose, respiratory issues, cardiovascular diseases. annual these ranged from 2% 10%. Treatment outcomes significantly impacted by Greater adherence longer care periods observed in individuals, which correlated with better lower mortality. This makes clear how addiction chronic issues require integrated models. effectiveness may be further increased gender-specific interventions. For population, policy reforms enhanced healthcare support are essential. enhance clinical results enrolled programs, comprehensive age-appropriate models crucial. Long-term should investigated evidence-based treatments OUD developed.
