crystal
structure
analyses
reveal
that
complexes

12
possess
sandwich-like
structure.
Compounds
2–5
are
isostructural
feature
a
hexagonal
structure,
shaped
like
"Star
of
David".
Isostructural
6–10
present
ring-like
well
the
cluster
11.
The
structural
variations
these
can
be
attributed
to
effect
lanthanide
contraction.
Moreover,
template
SO42−
anion
derived
from
slow
decomposition
also
plays
significant
role
in
formation
skeletons.

mechanism

generation
sulfate
is

Clusters
showing
a
giant
magnetocaloric
effect
(MCE)
are
of
interest
as
molecular
coolants
for
magnetic
refrigeration.

Both
clusters
display
fascinating
cubic
Tinkertoy-like
structures,
with
motifs
being
built
multiple
metallic
shells
Platonic
Archimedean
polyhedra.
The
isothermal
entropy
change─a
direct
measurement
MCE─was
determined
be
52.65
J·kg–1·K–1
at
2.5
K
7.0
T
Gd-containing
cluster;
this
value
is
highest
known
any
so
far
reported.

Polyoxometalate
(POM)-based
lanthanide-oxo
clusters
(LnOCs)
are
a
class
of
polynuclear
lanthanide–oxygen
complexes
formed
by
polyoxometalate
stabilization
through
oxygen
bridges
in
which
POMs
can
be
viewed
as
multidentate
inorganic
ligands.
POM-based
LnOCs
have
received
interest
owing
to
their
interesting
structures
and
potential
applications.
In
this
paper,
we
summarize
the
classification,
synthesis
strategies,
properties
LnOCs.
classified
into
three
main
categories
according
metal
core
element
type
quantity:
pure
4f
clusters,
5d–4f
3d–4f
clusters.
Their
synthetic
strategies
divided
four
based
on
source
POM
involved
structural

dodecahedral
cage
clusters
have
long
been
a
coveted
target
in
synthetic
chemistry,
yet
their
creation
poses
immense
challenges.
Here
we
report
two
open
lanthanide–aluminum
(Ln–Al)
heterometallic
clusters,
namely,
[Ln210Al140(μ2-OH)210(μ3-OH)540(OAc)180(H2O)156](ClO4)120·(MeCN)x·(H2O)y,
(Ln
=
Dy
and
x
27,
y
300
for
1;
Ln
Y
28,
420
2).
Remarkably,
the
350
metal
atoms
1
2
display
Keplerate-type
four-shell
structure
of
truncated
icosidodecahedron@dodecahedron@dodecahedron@icosidodecahedron.
The
diameter
cationic
cluster
is
approximately
5.0
nm,
with
an
inner
cavity
about
2.8
nm
window
roughly
0.66
nm.
boasts
accessible
void
volume
up
to
15,000
Å3.
Notably,
these
maintain
stability
water,
icosidodecahedrons
are
first
kind
synthesized
date.
Given
that
Ln–Al
has
never
reported
before,
this
work
represents
member
family
cages.

The
self-assembly
of
the
high-nuclearity
Ln-exclusive
nanoclusters
is
challenging
but
significance
due
to
its
aesthetically
pleasing
architectures
and
far-reaching
latent
applications
in
magnetic
cooling
technologies.
Herein,
two
novel
lanthanide
were
successfully
synthesized
under
solvothermal
conditions,
formulated
as
{[Gd18(IN)20(HCOO)8(μ6-O)(μ3-OH)24(H2O)4]·4H2O}n
{[Eu18(IN)16(HCOO)8(CH3COO)4(μ6-O)(μ3-OH)24(H2O)4]·5H2O}n
(abbreviated
Gd18
Eu18,
HIN
=
isonicotinic
acid).
Both
them
possess
exquisite
windmill-shaped
cationic
cores
family
nanoclusters.
Remarkably,
adjacent
second
building
units
are
interconnected
into
a
three-dimensional
(3D)
metal–organic
framework
by
IN–
ligands.
As
expected,
abundant
existence
GdIII
ions
endows
with
favorable
entropy
change
at
2.0
K
for
ΔH
7.0
T
(−ΔSmmax
40.0
J
kg–1
K–1),
Eu18
displays
typical
luminescence
EuIII
ions.

Abstract
Reducing
the
size
of
upconversion
nanoparticles
(UCNPs)
down
to
a
few
nm
yields
luminescent
materials
containing
very
small
number
emitters.
Considering
bottom
limit
one
activator
per
particle
ultrasmall
UCNPs
offer
an
unprecedented
platform
study
contributions
different
energy
transfers
at
play
in
luminescence.
Maintaining
detectable
emission
despite
limited
emitting
ions
and
high
surface‐to‐volume
ratio
requires
suitable
architectures.
Na(Gd‐Yb)F
4
:Tm
3+
emissive
sub‐3
diameter
β‐phase
are
prepared
using
gadolinium‐rich
composition
situ
mixing
precursors
microwave
high‐temperature
cycling
sequence
allowing
precise
control
dispersity.
These
cores
coated
with
NaGdF
inert
shell
minimize
deleterious
influence
surface
quenching
(SQ).
Time‐resolved
luminescence
measurements
combining
standard
NIR
excitation
Yb
sensitizer
direct
UV
Tm
performed
quantify
cross
relaxation
processes.

fine
tuning
activators
via
optimized
synthesis
pathway

Heterometallic
cluster-based
materials
offer
