Abstract Fluorescence imaging in the second near‐infrared window (NIR‐II, 1000–1700 nm) has aroused immense attention for biomedical applications, offering exceptional advantages such as ultra‐low photon scattering and increased tissue penetration. Among NIR‐II‐emitted organic dyes, Boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY), emerged a noteworthy candidate. BODIPY, distinguished by its controllable molecular structure optical properties, outstanding fluorescence quantum yields, high molar absorption coefficients, remarkable chemical stability, undergone comprehensive investigation extensive exploration within realm of biological theranostics. This work aims to provide summary advancements development design strategies NIR‐II BODIPY fluorophores tailored advanced phototheranostics. Initially, elucidates several representative strategies, concluding electron‐programming strategy, extension conjugated backbone, J‐aggregation strategic establishment activatable fluorophores, which enhance skeletons. Subsequently, developments fluorescent BODIPY‐based nanoplatforms applications are intricately elaborated. In conclusion, this outlines future efforts directions refining meet evolving clinical demands. It is anticipated that contribution may feasible reference thereby advancing their potential practices.

The development of polymer-based persistent luminescence materials with color-tunable organic afterglow and multiple responses is highly desirable for applications in anti-counterfeiting, flexible displays, data-storage. However, achieving efficient from a single-phosphor system remains challenging task. Herein, by doping 9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole (PI2) into an amorphous polyacrylamide matrix, hierarchical dual-mode emission developed, which exhibits due to excitation-, temperature-, humidity-dependence. Notably, the coexistence isolated state J-aggregate guest molecule not only provides excitation-dependent color, but also leads temperature-dependent color resulting different thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) ultralong phosphorescence (UOP) behaviors aggregated states. complex responsiveness based on can serve security features through inkjet printing ink-writing. Abstract J‐aggregation brings intriguing optical and electronic properties to molecular dyes significantly expands their applicability across diverse domains, yet the challenge for rationally designing J‐aggregating persists. Constructing J-aggregated organic dyes represents a promising strategy for obtaining biomedical second near-infrared (NIR-II) emissive materials, as they exhibit red-shifted spectroscopic properties upon assembly into nanoparticles (NPs) in aqueous environments. However, currently available NIR-II J-aggregates primarily rely on specific molecular backbones with intricate design strategies and are susceptible to fluorescence quenching during assembly. A facile approach constructing bright using prevalent donor-acceptor (D-A) molecules is still lacking. In this study, we present method that transforms D-A by simply bending the molecule through introducing methyl group, enabling high-performance phototheranostics. The TAA-BT-CN exhibits hypsochromic-shift absorption forming H-aggregated NPs, while designed mTAA-BT-CN bent structure demonstrates bathochromic shift of over 100 nm leading much enhanced emission beyond 1100 nm. With respect its counterpart aggregation-caused (ACQ) phenomenon, NPs 7-fold increase owing their aggregation-induced (AIE) property well efficient generation heat reactive oxygen species under 808 light excitation. Finally, employed whole-body blood vessel imaging technology imaging-guided tumor phototherapies. This study will facilitate flourishing advancement based D-A-type molecules.

Abstract Near‐infrared (NIR) phototheranostics, combining photoacoustic imaging (PAI) and photothermal therapy (PTT), show great promise for cancer diagnosis treatment. Organic molecules are excellent agents (PTAs) due to their strong NIR absorption biodegradability. Typically, achieving good response involves using fused‐ring backbones, which require complex synthesis yield lower production. In this work, 2F nanoparticles (NPs) reported as an organic phototheranostic agent with high responses, synthesized in just two simple steps 87% production efficient PAI‐guided PTT of cancer. Unlike traditional structures, is formed by joining donor acceptor moieties carbon–carbon bonds, simplifying increasing yield. Although isolated have absorption, forming NPs shifts the peak from 708 808 nm, comparable state‐of‐the‐art phototheranostics. This shift significant charge transfer between dimers, a single‐component charge‐transfer improved shown spectra theoretical studies. Finally, demonstrate successful under excitation anti‐tumor performance. work provides valuable insight into both photophysical performance PTAs, advancing development PTT.

The development of stable organic dye radicals that exhibit intense and redox-switchable absorption in the short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) region is highly desirable but remains a significant challenge. Herein, we present two neutral nickel(II) radical complexes tetradentate-type azadipyrromethene (ADP), which demonstrate exceptional stability under aerobic conditions high photostability. nature stable, newly synthesized [NiII(ADP.)] was verified through electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, displayed predominant character with at g = 2.003. These SWIR absorptions maximum wavelength (λmax) around 1260 nm. can be readily oxidized to corresponding cations or reduced less anions, all maintain characteristics. electronic configuration, redox characteristics, spectra developed systems were systematically investigated supported by theoretical calculations, indicating spin density delocalized across tetradentate ADP core nickel atom. Furthermore, exhibited photothermal conversion efficiency 60.1% irradiation 1064 nm laser, highlighting its potential for applications therapy.
