This work reports on the development of an analyte sampling strategy a plasmonic substrate to amplify detection capability dual analytical system, paper spray ionization–mass spectrometry (PSI-MS) and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). While simply applying only solution results in limited degree SERS enhancement, introduction gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) greatly improves signals without sacrificing PSI-MS sensitivity. Forensic analysis can encompass a wide variety of analytes from biological samples including DNA, blood, serum, and fingerprints to synthetic like drugs explosives. In order analyze this variety, there are various sample preparation techniques, which be time-consuming require multiple analytical instruments. With recent advancements in ambient ionization mass spectrometry (MS), plasma-based dielectric barrier discharge (DBDI) sources have demonstrated cover range these analytes. The flow-through design source also allows for easy connection thermal desorption type introduction. We present an in-house built device where the is introduced via glass slide, gets heated transferred DBDI-MS with nitrogen identification semi-quantification.
