In this work, we employed a new ambient ionization mass spectrometry technique, sandpaper spray (SPS-MS), as an efficient tool to analyze pills and tablets of pharmaceutical formulations. The following samples were analyzed: regulators blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, drugs for the treatment erectile dysfunction (ED). Additionally, hard candy Cannabis sativa containing Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ

This work reports on the development of an analyte sampling strategy a plasmonic substrate to amplify detection capability dual analytical system, paper spray ionization–mass spectrometry (PSI-MS) and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). While simply applying only solution results in limited degree SERS enhancement, introduction gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) greatly improves signals without sacrificing PSI-MS sensitivity. It is initially revealed that concentration AuNPs type analytes highly influence their variations due “coffee ring effect” flow mechanism induced during interfacial interactions (e.g., van der Waals, electrostatic, covalent) between analyte. Subsequent PSI treatment at high voltage conditions further impacts overall responses, where signal sensitivity homogeneity significantly increase throughout entire substrate, suggesting ready migration adsorbed regardless attractive forces. The PSI-induced notable enhancements are presumably associated with creating unique for local aggregation induce effective couplings hot spots (i.e., electromagnetic effect) repositioning close proximity surface polarizability chemical effect). optimized also applicable multi-analyte analysis by MS, enhanced uniformity.

Forensic analysis can encompass a wide variety of analytes from biological samples including DNA, blood, serum, and fingerprints to synthetic like drugs explosives. In order analyze this variety, there are various sample preparation techniques, which be time-consuming require multiple analytical instruments. With recent advancements in ambient ionization mass spectrometry (MS), plasma-based dielectric barrier discharge (DBDI) sources have demonstrated cover range these analytes. The flow-through design source also allows for easy connection thermal desorption type introduction. We present an in-house built device where the is introduced via glass slide, gets heated transferred DBDI-MS with nitrogen identification semi-quantification. Using slide as inexpensive sampling device, detection limits low 20 pg fentanyl demonstrated.
