Abstract
Background
Early
intervention

Abstract
Background:
Timely
intervention
is
beneficial
to
the
effectiveness
of
eating
disorder
(ED)
treatment,
but
limited
capacity
within
ED
services
means
that
these
disorders
are
often
not
treated
with
sufficient
speed.
This
service
evaluation
extends
previous
research
into
guided
self-help
(GSH)
for
adults
bulimic
spectrum
EDs
by
assessing
feasibility,
acceptability,
and
preliminary
virtually
delivered
GSH
using
videoconferencing.
Method:
Patients
bulimia
nervosa
(BN),
binge
(BED)
other
specified
feeding
(OSFED)
waiting
treatment
in
a
large
specialist
adult
out-patient
were
offered
GSH.
The
programme
used
an
evidence-based
cognitive
behavioural
book.
Individuals
supported
non-expert
coaches,
who
eight-session

Introduction
The
Covid-19
pandemic
and
its
consequences
have
negatively
impacted
the
incidence
of
EDs,
determining
a
substantial
burden
on
patients,
caregivers
healthcare
systems
world-wide.
This
literature
review
aims
to
investigate
short-
long-term
effects
care
provider
systems,
exploring
possibility
“rethinking”
ED
programs.
Methods
Records
were
systematically
(following
PRISMA
guidelines)
identified
through
PubMed,
Google
Scholar
Scopus
searching.
Results
led
an
abrupt
increase
in
pediatric
adolescent
visits
hospital
admissions.
Despite
decline
second-year
post-onset,
absolute
visit
volumes
remained
elevated
relative
pre-pandemic
levels.
Barriers
access
specialist
emerged,
including
socio-economic
status
lack
public
outpatient
services.
Consequently,
this
situation
has
prompted
providers
explore
innovative
bridge
plans
multidisciplinary
telehealth
solutions
face
such
challenges.
