Abstract One fundamental challenge in diffusion MRI (dMRI) harmonization is to disentangle the contributions of scanner-related effects from variable brain anatomy for observed imaging signals. Conventional methods rely on establishing an atlas space resolve anatomical variability and generate a unified inter-site mapping function. Abstract Typical sex differences in white matter (WM) microstructure during development are incompletely understood. Here we evaluated WM typical brain using a sample of neurotypical individuals across wide developmental age (N=239, aged 5-22 years). We used the conventional diffusion-weighted MRI (dMRI) model, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and two advanced dMRI models, distribution function (TDF) neurite orientation dispersion density (NODDI) to assess microstructure. exhibited significant, regionally consistent development. Additionally, TDF model was most sensitive detecting differences. These findings highlight importance considering neurodevelopmental research underscore value model.

Ambient air pollution is ubiquitous, yet questions remain as to how it might impact the developing brain. Large changes occur in brain's white matter (WM) microstructure across adolescence, with noticeable differences WM integrity male and female youth. Here we report sex-stratified effects of fine particulate (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3) on longitudinal patterns from 9-13 years-old 8,182 (49% female) participants using restriction spectrum imaging. After adjusting for key sociodemographic factors, multi-pollutant, models showed that one-year annual exposure PM2.5 NO2 was associated higher, while O3 lower, intracellular diffusion at age 9. All three pollutants also affected trajectories maturation years-old, some sex-specific number anatomical locations tracts showing altered diffusion. Concentrations were well-below current U.S. standards, suggesting these criteria during adolescence may have long-term consequences brain development.

Abstract Behavioral differences between men and women have been studied extensively, as in brain anatomy. However, most studies focused on gray matter, while white matter has much less studied. We conducted a comprehensive study of 77 deep tracts to analyze their volumetric microstructural variability the full Human Connectome Project (HCP) cohort 1065 healthy individuals aged 22–35 years. found significant difference total volume (+ 12.6% men), consistent with literature. 16 showed women, one which stood out due larger effect size: corpus callosum genu, was 7.3% p = 5.76 × 10 –19 ). In addition, we several parameters both using standard Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) more complex from Neurite Orientation Dispersion Density (NODDI) model, showing greatest belonging motor (cortico-spinal tracts, cortico-cerebellar tracts) or limbic (cingulum, fornix, thalamo-temporal radiations) systems. These may be related known behavioral sexes timed performance, aggressiveness/impulsivity, social cognition.

Abstract Neuroinflammation is both a consequence and driver of overfeeding weight gain in rodent obesity models. Advances magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enable investigations brain microstructure that suggests neuroinflammation human obesity. To assess the convergent validity across MRI techniques extend previous findings, we used diffusion basis spectrum (DBSI) to characterize obesity-associated alterations 601 children (age 9-11 years) from Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development SM Study. Compared with normal-weight, greater DBSI restricted fraction (RF), reflecting neuroinflammation-related cellularity, was seen widespread white matter overweight Greater DBSI-RF hypothalamus, caudate nucleus, putamen, and, particular, nucleus accumbens, correlated higher baseline body mass index (BMI) related anthropometrics. Comparable findings were striatum previously reported restriction (RSI) model. Gain waist circumference over one two years related, at nominal significance, RSI-assessed accumbens respectively. Here demonstrate childhood associated microstructural matter, striatum. Our results also support reproducibility, methods, obesity-related putative children.

This review article aimed at explaining gender differences in expressive language that emerge beginning from the childhood biopsychosocial model of perspective. Afterwards, especially parental role on emotional component was specified by giving example research studies. The most important finding parent and child may interact child’s expressiveness; while mothers tend to encourage their children emotionally express themselves more than fathers, both fathers girls motivate be assertive as compared parents boys. Parental socialization specifically expressiveness results some oral communication written among adults adolescents. Similar can also observed online communication. It seems these relate level linguistic effectiveness general mostly language, which is expressiveness. Literature indicates a substantial related processes go through such put boys disadvantaged position terms social development. Future studies further investigate reasons behind biological perspectives. Since Besides, intervention programs for equality developed applied contexts families school environment.

Invasive tract-tracing studies in rodents implicate a direct connection between the subiculum and bed nucleus of stria terminalis (BNST) as key component neural pathways mediating hippocampal regulation Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis. A clear characterisation connections linking BNST humans non-human primates is lacking. To address this, we first delineated projections from to using anterograde tracers injected into macaque monkeys, revealing evidence for monosynaptic subiculum-BNST projection involving fornix. Second, used vivo diffusion MRI tractography macaques demonstrate substantial complex connectivity both species. This was primarily carried by fornix, with additional via amygdala, consistent rodent anatomy. Third, utilising twin-based nature our human sample, found that microstructural properties these tracts were moderately heritable (h2 ∼ 0.5). In final analysis, no any significant association complex-BNST tract microstructure indices perceived stress/dispositional negativity alcohol use, derived principal analysis decomposition self-report data. Our findings translational gap knowledge neurocircuitry regulating stress.

Despite the high prevalence of developmental dyslexia in U.S. population, research remains limited and possibly biased due to overrepresentation males most dyslexic samples. Studying biological sex differences context can help provide a more complete understanding neurological markers that underly this disorder. The current study aimed explore white matter diffusivity typical samples third fourth graders. Participants were asked behavioral/cognitive assessments at baseline followed by MRI scanning diffusion-weighted imaging sequences. A series ANOVAs conducted for comparing group membership (developmental or typically developing), gender status (F/M), tracts interest. Results indicated significant fractional anisotropy left hemisphere components inferior superior (parietal temporal) longitudinal fasciculi. While with had lower these compared control males, no such found females. results may suggest females use bilateral/alternative reading network.
