Abstract Tropical mangroves are known to support fish production, but natural variability in the link between mangrove habitats and populations undermines our ability manage, conserve restore this ecological relationship. This is largely due undefined context‐dependence use of by fish. We collected a spatially extensive dataset 494 assemblages using standardised Remote Underwater Video surveys edge from five environmentally heterogenous regions Indo‐Pacific. used machine learning methods define contextual limits reportedly mangrove‐affiliated found that tidal range proximity coral reefs were most important predictors taxa. established data‐driven threshold values for fish, offering new insights into variable role played tropical supporting life histories. Where occur as part reef seascapes with limited (<1.5 m), they appear serve an juvenile habitat function wide spectrum In substantially larger ranges, only certain species coastal Coastal estuary able variety non‐reef contexts. demonstrate key thresholds environmental context can govern functional mangroves, strong implications other seascapes.

Abstract Twenty-five years since foundational publications on valuing ecosystem services for human well-being 1,2 , addressing the global biodiversity crisis 3 still implies confronting barriers to incorporating nature’s diverse values into decision-making. These include powerful interests supported by current norms and legal rules such as property rights, which determine whose of nature are acted on. A better understanding how why is (under)valued more urgent than ever 4 . Notwithstanding agreements incorporate actions, including Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) 5 UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 predominant environmental development policies prioritize a subset values, particularly those linked markets, ignore other ways people relate benefit from 7 Arguably, ‘values crisis’ underpins intertwined crises loss climate change 8 pandemic emergence 9 socio-environmental injustices 10 On basis 50,000 scientific publications, policy documents Indigenous local knowledge sources, Intergovernmental Platform Ecosystem Services (IPBES) assessed valuation methods gain insights their role in policymaking fuller integration decisions 7,11 Applying this evidence, combinations values-centred approaches proposed improve address uptake, ultimately leveraging transformative changes towards just (that is, fair treatment nature, inter- intragenerational equity) sustainable futures.

Mapping and assessing the demand for ecosystem services (ES) in urban areas can support allocation of nature-based solutions (NbS) to deliver ES where they are most needed. This study presents a method that combines spatial assessments numeric scores reflecting capacity different typologies NbS supply multiple ES. Abstract Nature's contributions to people (NCP) rarely originate from nature alone. Often, only by joining natural capital with forms of anthropogenic capital, NCP emerge benefitting people. Understanding how are co‐produced and capitals is needed inform decision‐making on sustainable land‐use practices. Through a systematic review the literature, we compile existing empirical evidence co‐production this was arrived at. We identified 237 observations 25 publications indicators co‐producing NCP. The reviewed studies were conducted mainly in cropland forest ecosystems at landscape level. Our results show that most for exists material NCP, physical and/or human as main input. Abstract Wildlife are increasingly recognized as critical to urban ecosystems, but the impacts and benefits of wildlife on people in cities poorly understood. Environmental justice scholarship has concluded that elements environment can create or exacerbate social inequity, human–wildlife interactions have not been considered through this lens. We conducted a literature review wildlife, environmental justice. triangulated between these three bodies identify trends, gaps research needs. identified six pathways which presence absence, management may lead injustice for people. Our shows affect nearly all aspects life people, including economics, participation decision‐making, patterns space, human health, psychological well‐being cultural discourses. Through pathways, disproportionately marginalized vulnerable communities affluent residents. Contemporary intersections planning, histories systemic bias existing injustices cities. Synthesis applications . Though often characterized ‘good’ ‘bad’ based their effects we conclude dichotomy perpetuates wildlife. Governance of ecosystem services (ES) requires an understanding the complex dynamics collaboration (and contestation) multiple stakeholders and ES. However, many studies consider only a few ES or stakeholder groups. In our work, we map co-production by connected through governance networks. Through unique combination Public Participatory Geographic Information Systems (PPGIS), focus groups, surveys, social network analysis, reveal insights on social-ecological fit across area unified UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation. By overlaying relationships between stakeholders, ES, networks, results gaps mismatches in system. We identified those most valued region's inhabitants managed, governed studied relevant institutions stakeholders. Cultural were highly appreciated but networks cultural least densely connected, with influential involved management (e.g., farmers), not well to network. Thus, findings point weakness need incorporating more clearly into natural resource agendas. Our show importance mapping what is being discussed whom, that environmental alone does necessarily provide sufficient resolution understand different confirm difficulties governing when providers and/or beneficiaries operate at distant scales, scale ecological processes match some regulating maintenance ES), which are important affecting provision governance, resulting misfit. Lastly, work confirms broad array research methods needed capture complexity
