Smallholder agroecosystems play a key role in the world's food security providing more than 50% of produced globally. These unique face myriad challenges and remain largely unsupported, yet they are thought to be critical resource for feeding projected increasing human population coming years. The new challenge increase production through agricultural intensification shrinking per capita arable lands, dwindling world economies, unpredictable climate change, has led over-dependence on agrochemical inputs that often costly hazardous both animal health environment. To ensure healthy crop approaches, search alternative ecofriendly strategies best fit smallholder systems have been proposed. most common widely accepted solution gained lot interest among researchers farmers is use biological agents; mainly plant growth promoting microorganisms (PGPMs) provide essential agroecosystem services within holistic vision enhancing farm productivity environmental protection. PGPMs roles agroecological cycles fundamental soil nutrient amelioration, improvement, tolerance biotic abiotic stresses, biocontrol pests diseases, water uptake. This review explores different research involving beneficial microorganisms, context agroecosystems, promote sustainable maintenance enhance resilience against climatic perturbations.

As pesticide abuse becomes increasingly serious worldwide, it is necessary to pay attention the biopesticide adoption behavior of agricultural producers. It worth verifying whether cooperatives, as training organizations sharing same social network with farmers, can promote biopesticides through their technology diffusion function. Therefore, based on survey data 837 citrus producers in Sichuan Province, China, IV-probit regression model and a mediation effects were used empirically test impact technical farmers’ addition its mechanism, considering perception variable. The results show that (a) participation significantly enhance probability biopesticides; (b) perceptions biopesticides’ economic health benefits play partial mediating role relationship; (c) has more significant for household higher-educated heads, lower total income, smaller size, relative counterparts. This study provides evidence establishing relevant policy encourage full function cooperatives popularize use biopesticides.

Pesticides are an important and widely used tool for crop protection, but they also pose significant risks to agricultural sustainability, human health the environment. In this paper, we examine whether mass media campaigns can help improve pesticide knowledge change use behaviour among smallholder farmers in Rwanda Uganda. We assess individual combined effects of campaign channels, which include interactive radio, plant rallies, mobile SMS video screenings. Applying a doubly robust method survey data from 1327 maize-producing households across two countries, find that significantly associated with improved farmer safety precautions. While appear not have discouraged synthetic pesticides, increased adoption safer alternatives including sustainable integrated pest management practices. The correlated protective equipment against exposure both countries reduced incidence pesticide-related illnesses Rwanda. conclude (particularly using multiple complementary channels) be effective enhancing farmers' about measures, promote strategies.

Aphids pose a significant threat to global agricultural crop production, leading widespread pesticide use and resistance. This necessitates the of alternative substances, like plant secondary metabolites (PSMs). Plants have developed protective compounds known as alkaloids, terpenoids, phenolics, sulfur- nitrogen-containing metabolites. These exhibit promising characteristics against aphids, such antifeedant, aphicidal, disrupting survival fitness. review highlights importance application in combating aphid populations. Different insect-resistant substances different mechanisms for managing aphids other pests, including defensive signaling, inhibiting growth, attracting natural predators by releasing herbivore-induced volatiles (HIPV). The biopesticides has proven be an effective, economical, eco-friendly synthetic chemicals. Furthermore, this comprehensively discusses principle role metabolites, encouraging sustainable practices emphasizing integrated management population.

Global demand for food production is causing pressure to produce faster and bigger crop yields, leading a rampant use of synthetical pesticides. To combat the nefarious consequences its uses, search effective alternatives began in last decades currently ongoing. Nature seen as main source answers protection problems, supported by several examples plants/extracts used this purpose traditional agriculture. The literature reviewed allowed identification 95 plants whose extracts exhibit insecticide activity can be bio-pesticides contributing sustainable option ethanol and/or water more environmentally friendly resorts easily accessible solvents, which reproduced farmers themselves. This enables bridge established between raw scientific data practical reality. Azadirachta indica, Capsicum annuum, Nicotiana tabacum Tagetes erecta are most researched have potential viable options pest management approach. indica showed promising results Brevicoryne brassicae was targeted species, being tested against aqueous ethanolic 23 different plants. Drawing on a synthesis of the recent empirical literature, we show that since its first report in 2016, fall armyworm has continued to spread rapidly posing severe threats food security smallholders Sub-Saharan Africa. Fall impacts have been more pronounced during 2020 due Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) restrictions hampered labor availability and smallholder access crop protection inputs. There is a general drive to reduce pesticide use owing the potential negative effects of pesticides on environment and human health. The EU Commission, for example, through its "Farm Fork Strategy," has proposed decrease hazardous chemical by 50% 2030. In addition, smallholder farmers in low-income countries do not always follow safety precautions. This necessitates introduction low-risk crop protection strategies also suited these farmers. Agricultural biologicals can substitute for, or at least partially replace pesticides. While market growing quickly industrialized countries, this practice remains limited sub-Saharan Africa. To understand reason behind low adoption biologicals, study examined knowledge, attitudes, practices toward among 150 Chole district Ethiopia. All used and/or inorganic fertilizers protect crops, improve yields, comply with government regulations. was, however, restricted one group bio-fertilizers, which approximately 60% used, no plant was reported. Even though understanding concept deemed high respondents, majority (90%) did identify as safer alternatives conventional agricultural inputs. More than half respondents (54%) recommend their colleagues. Nevertheless, even if responding perceive risk-free, they had positive attitude towards when it came producing healthy food increasing yields incomes. comparison attitude, farmers' knowledge were generally low; thus, efforts are needed create awareness

The extensive use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in conventional agriculture has raised significant environmental health issues, including the emergence resistant pests pathogens. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) present a sustainable alternative, offering dual benefits as biofertilizers biocontrol agents. This review delves into mechanisms by which PGPR enhance plant growth, nutrient solubilization, phytohormone production, pathogen suppression. PGPR's commercial viability application, particularly under abiotic stress conditions, are also examined. improves growth directly enhancing uptake producing substances indirectly inhibiting phytopathogens through such siderophore production secretion lytic enzymes. Despite their potential, commercialization faces challenges, strain specificity, formulation stability, regulatory barriers. highlights need for ongoing research to deepen our understanding plant-microbe interactions develop more robust formulations. Addressing these challenges will be crucial integrating mainstream agricultural practices reducing reliance on synthetic agrochemicals. successful adoption could lead practices, promoting healthier crops ecosystems.
