About 60 samples were collected from patients with varicella zoster, including 24 males and 36 females, as well healthy people, which included 29 (15 14 females), aged between 15 years. Purpose Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) ranks among the most common causes of severe viral encephalitis. It leads to meningitis or encephalitis, with patients frequently encountering adverse outcomes. In this study, we utilized metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) rapidly and accurately detect identify HSV pathogen directly from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples, aiming achieve a definitive diagnosis for patients.
