Chromium-containing refractories have excellent high-temperature corrosion resistance. In this work, Cr2O3 reinforced Al2O3–SiO2 composite were prepared by reaction sintering process. The microstructure, phase composition, mechanical properties and strengthening mechanism of the investigated. results show that when content is 10–20 wt%, composites are mainly composed Cr-mullite (Al3.94Cr0.50Si1.56O10.44), (Al, Cr)2O3, a small amount SiO2 phase. When exceeds 20%, consist Cr)2O3 phases. appropriate can effectively enhance compactness composites. Al2O3-Cr2O3 refractories have excellent slag corrosion resistance and can adapt to the oxidation/reduction atmosphere in smelting reduction ironmaking furnace. Improving of chrome corundum is great significance for extending life length industrial kilns decreasing carbon emissions. In this work, influences ZrO2 content on phase evolution, microstructure, physicochemical properties, mechanical properties reinforced composite were investigated. The results show that composites are primarily composed (Al, Cr)2O3 solid solution m-ZrO2. compressive strength, flexural strength hardness be improved by adding 2.5 wt.% ZrO2. However, more will reduce its properties. This due excessive augement porosity refractories, transformation also lead formation microcracks during cooling process. It worth noting higher improves thermal shock composites, which put down microcrack toughening mechanism tests thicknesses infiltration layers significantly decreased accompanied increase. because high melting point CaZr4O9 reduces CaO alkalinity, inhibits dissolution Al2O3 into a certain extent. Corundum–mullite refractory material is an important in rotary kiln incinerators due to its excellent properties, e.g., high temperature stability and chemical resistance, etc. However, the process of use, complexity sintering will inevitably produce a large amount spent corundum–mullite material. Therefore, it study failure mechanism prolong service life. In this manuscript, scrapping for was studied by XRD, XPS, SEM-EDS, FTIR, The results indicate that corrosion caused impurity elements, such as Fe, Ca, Mg, Ti, etc., one mechanisms. corundum structure remains stable throughout life, while mullite exhibits opposite phenomenon. Al-O-Si bonds are depolymerized elements release free tetrahedral structures, including [AlO4] tetrahedron [SiO4] tetrahedron. intervention iron, tetrahedra, [AlO4], [FeO4], can bond with each other sharing bridging oxygen (BO), probably forming Fe-O(BO)-Si, Fe-O(BO)-Al, Al-O(BO)-Si Al2O3-SiO2-Fe2O3-MexOy (Me = etc.)-based amorphous phase. These findings provide theoretical support prolonging life materials incinerators.
