Contamination of trace levels volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in enclosed spaces is not usually a significant cause for concern; however, it can be relevant the case canine scent detection training as canine’s superior sense smell makes them highly likely to detect low contamination, contributing inefficient training. Thus, herein, we address need simple, low-cost, robust, vapochromic sensor determine cross-contamination VOCs within closed containers, such aid kits. This study focuses on development vapor sensor, which produces rapid colorimetric change when target chemical present. A pH indicator used dye and its incorporation into sol–gel matrix paper substrate confirmed via SEM characterization. The sensor’s stability performance tested against exposure various sunlight temperature. design allows present clear unambiguous visible response release container.
