Mangroves
are
recognized
as
a
sink
for
plastic
and
other
anthropogenic
marine
debris
(AMD).
The
accumulation
rates
of
AMD
within
these
ecosystems,
however,
have
not
yet
been
assessed
anywhere
in
the
world.
Here,
we
investigated
standing
stock
rate
at
four
most
polluted
mangroves
Hong
Kong
over
one
year,
focussing
on
its
ecological
impact
diversity
abundance
vegetation
benthic
macrofauna.
Plastics
accounted
~80
%
recorded
AMD.
accumulated

across
all

sites.

Disaster
preparedness

contextual,

experience-based
knowledge

urban
landslide
risk
is
mainly
based

lesser

infrastructure.

contextually

insights

qualitative
case
study

landslide-prone
informal
settlement
Manado,
Indonesia.

findings
indicate
that
anthropogenic
settlements,
particularly
inadequate
solid
waste
may
serve
an
overlooked
factor
landslides.

especially
problematic
low-income
or
neighborhoods,
where
detrimental
effects

management
intersect
with
heightened
vulnerability

ABSTRACT
Pluvial
flooding
is
a
significant
threat
in
many
Sub-Saharan
African
cities,
driven
by
rapid
urbanisation,
climate
change,
failures,
and
insufficient
hydraulic
capacity
of
existing
urban
drainage
systems
(UDSs).
However,
limited
modelling
studies
have
investigated
the
effect
sediment
solid
waste
accumulation
on
performance
UDSs
during
extreme
loading
conditions.
In
this
research,

ABSTRACT
Given
the
exponential
rise
in
global
plastic
production
and
its
significant
ecological
socio‐economic
impacts,
monitoring
macroplastics
rivers
has
become
a
central
focus
of
water
management
efforts.
However,
standardized
methodologies
are
lagging
behind
rate
waste
currently
entering
aquatic
systems
on
scale.
This
translates
into
shortage
spatially
temporally
refined
data
macroplastic
pollution
circulating
inland
waters.
Recent
advancements
remote
sensing
techniques,
primarily
satellites,
UASs,
fixed
handheld
cameras
combined
with
crowd‐sourced
automated
detection
using
machine
deep
learning,
offer
promising
opportunities
for
versatile
solutions.
Thus,
this
paper
reviews
state‐of‐the‐art
approaches
emerging
methods
identification
to
provide
researchers
comprehensive
inventory
techniques
encourage
scientific
community
harmonize

standard
protocols.

pollution
