Biotribology is applied to study the friction, wear, and lubrication of biological systems or natural phenomena under relative motion in human body. It a multidisciplinary field tribological processes impact all aspects our daily life. Tribological may occur after implantation an artificial device body with wide variety sliding frictional interfaces. Blood bio-lubricant experiencing laminar flow at lower screw velocities associated drilling implants into bone, being viscoelastic fluid viscous characteristics. Despite a wealth of exploratory plasma metabolomics studies in sickle cell disease (SCD), no study to date has evaluate large and well phenotyped cohort compare the primary erythrocyte metabolome hemoglobin SS, SC transfused AA red blood cells (RBCs) vivo. The current evaluates RBC 587 subjects with (SCD) from WALK-PHaSST clinical cohort. set includes SCD patients, variable levels HbA related transfusion events. Here we explore modulating effects genotype, age, sex, severity hemolysis, therapy on metabolism. Results show that RBCs patients Hb SS genotypes-compared recent events or RBCs-are characterized by significant alterations acylcarnitines, pyruvate, sphingosine 1-phosphate, creatinine, kynurenine urate Surprisingly, metabolism is dramatically different all glycolytic intermediates significantly elevated RBCs, exception pyruvate. This result suggests metabolic blockade at ATP-generating phosphoenolpyruvate pyruvate step glycolysis, which catalyzed redox-sensitive kinase. Metabolomics, hematological data were collated novel online portal. In conclusion, identified signatures HbS correlate degree steady state hemolytic anemia, cardiovascular renal dysfunction mortality.

Chronic wounds have always been considered as "gordian knots" in medicine, which hypoxia plays a key role blocking healing. To address this challenge, although tissue reoxygenation therapy based on hyperbaric oxygen (HBOT) has performed clinically for several years, the bench to bedside still urges evolution of oxygen-loading and -releasing strategies with explicit benefits consistent outcome. The combination various carriers biomaterials gained momentum an emerging therapeutic strategy field, exhibiting considerable application potential. This review gives overview essential relationship between delayed wound Further, detailed characteristics, preparation methods applications oxygen-releasing (ORBMs) will be elaborated, including hemoglobin, perfluorocarbon, peroxide, oxygen-generating microorganisms, those are applied load, release or generate vast relieve hypoxemia bring subsequent cascade effect. pioneering papers regarding ORBMs practice presented trends toward hybrid more precise manipulation summarized.

Abstract Oxygen is necessary for life and plays a key pivotal in maintaining normal physiological functions treat of diseases. Hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) have been studied developed as replacement red blood cells (RBCs) transport due to their similar oxygen-carrying capacities. However, applications HBOCs are hindered by vasoactivity, oxidative toxicity, relatively short circulatory half-life. With advancements nanotechnology, Hb encapsulation, absorption, bioconjugation, entrapment, attachment nanomaterials used prepare nanomaterial-related address these challenges pend application several biomedical therapeutic contexts. This review focuses on the progress this class fields hemorrhagic shock, ischemic stroke, cancer, wound healing, speculates future research directions. The expected lead significant breakthroughs substitutes, enabling widespread use treatment clinical Graphical

High altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) is a potentially fatal condition induced by exposure to high-altitude environment. Eleutheroside B naturally active polyphenolic substance that has previously demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antidepressant properties. However, the effects of eleutheroside on HPAE are unknown. Here, (50 mg/kg 100 mg/kg) was applied HAPE rats. alleviated lung decreased levels tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, vascular endothelial growth factor, total proteins in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. reversed acid-base disturbances HAPE. In addition, oxidative stress. pretreatment facilitated translocation nuclear factor E2-related 2 (Nrf2) into nucleus, contributing inhibition ferroptosis necroptosis. Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a multisystem autoimmune disease with small-vessel involvement. In AAV, microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and granulomatosis (GPA) are major clinicopathologic variants. addition, myeloperoxidase (MPO) proteinase 3 (PR3) target antigens. The objective of the study was to explore predictive factors for long-term survival in AAV patients. A multicenter retrospective carried out on 407 patients between 2005 2020. Clinical parameters were obtained from laboratory tests including ANCA types, antinuclear (ANA), extractable nuclear antigen (ENA), anti-streptolysin O (ASO), glomerular filtration rate (GFR), examinations blood routine, liver function, renal immunity, etc. data clinical collected electronic medical records (EMRs), patient acquired through regular follow-up. association overall (OS) along 3-year 5-year rates analyzed, nomogram as model established according analysis results. present study, 336 (82.6%) 46 (11.3%) diagnosed MPA GPA, respectively. mean median OS all 2,285 2,290 days, 1-year, 3-year, 5-year, 10-year cumulative 84.2%, 76.3%, 57.2%, 32.4%, Univariate multivariate analyses indicated that independent prognostic included age, pathological categories (MPA, other types), serum types (negative or positive MPO and/or PR3), ANA, ASO, GFR, lymphocyte, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), C-reactive protein (CRP), these except ASO used construct nomogram. had C-index 0.721 (95% CI 0.676-0.766). calibration curves showed predicted values generally consistent practical observed values, decision curve (DCA) further demonstrated practicability accuracy model. Laboratory at diagnosis have great significance prediction
