An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effect of selenium-yeast (Se-yeast) supplementation on replacing fishmeal with soy protein concentrate (SPC) in diets for golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus). The control diet (C) contained 400 g/kg fishmeal, which 40% and 80% C were substituted by SPC, or without 1 Se-yeast (four diets, R40, R80, R40 + Se, R80 formulated). weight gain fish-fed showed no obvious difference from that fed-diet although it higher than Se. Fish-fed Se exhibited nitrogen phosphorus retention efficiencies, whereas they had relatively lower feed intake, conversion ratio, waste outputs R80. No statistical differences found condition factor whole-body components either between Our research suggests is feasible reduce dietary 240 SPC inclusion.

Comparative animal models generate fundamental scientific knowledge of immune responses. However, these studies typically are conducted in mammals because their biochemical and physiological similarity to humans. Presently, there has been an interest using teleost fish study intestinal immunology, particularly mucosa response. Instead targeting the pathogen itself, a preferred approach for managing health is through nutrient supplementation, as it noninvasive less labor intensive than vaccine administrations while still modulating properties. Amino acids (AAs) regulate metabolic processes, oxidant-antioxidant balance, requirements improve Thus, nutritionists can develop sustainable aquafeeds AA supplementation promote specific responses, including system. We propose use dietary with functional AAs response by discussing immunology within intestine explore how oxidative burst used defense mechanism. evaluate components responses that balance potential selection metabolites mucosal capacity gut integrity. effective modulators immunity balance. To incorporate nutrition immunoregulatory means teleost, we must obtain more tools genomic, proteomic, nutrition, macrobiotic metabonomic analyses, so future provide holistic understanding system fish.

Abstract We recently reported that supplementing glycine to soybean meal (SBM)-based diets is necessary for optimum growth of 5- 40-g (phase I) hybrid striped bass (HSB). The present study tested the hypothesis SBM-based may enhance 110- 240-g II) HSB. HSB (the initial body weight approximately 110 g) were fed an SBM (58%)-based diet supplemented with 0%, 1%, or 2% glycine, l-alanine serving as isonitrogenous control. There four tanks per dietary group, fish tank. their respective apparent satiation twice daily. feed intake and recorded daily every 2 wk, respectively. At end 56-d feeding trial, plasma tissue samples collected determine amino acid concentrations histological alterations, tissues used measure oxidation l-glutamate, l-glutamine, l-aspartate, glycine. Results showed supplementation 1% dose-dependently increased (P < 0.05) concentration in by 48% 99%, Compared 0%-glycine did not affect > but final weight, gain, gain:feed ratio during whole period 13%, 29%, 21%, intake, gain 7%, 14%, 1%-glycine 2%-glycine had a greater villus height proximal intestine, when compared group. Collectively, these results indicated provide sufficient phase II (110 240 essential intestinal structure.

Protein ingredients for formulation of fish feeds are expensive and have limited availability. Therefore, reducing dietary protein while increasing fat content is a common practice in rearing carnivorous species. However, the ability L-carnitine to alleviate adverse effects such diets currently unknown. This study investigated role supplementation alleviating on growth performance, energy metabolism, antioxidant capacity, inflammation response juvenile largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) fed low high diet. Three were formulated contain (LPHF: 420 g kg-1 150 lipid), LPHF supplemented with (LPHFC: control diet (CON: 480 130 lipid). The 30 ( 10.75 ± 0.01 g) juveniles triplicates eight weeks. results showed that feed increased hepatosomatic index, visceral somatic mesenteric whole-body crude content, serum liver triglyceride concentrations, non-esterified fatty acid level than those CON Moreover, alanine aminotransferase activity malondialdehyde reduced superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities liver. Furthermore, content. Interestingly, feeding LPHFC decreased deposition damage by downregulating expression genes related lipogenesis, inflammation, SOD activity. indicates alleviates caused decreasing lipogenesis lipid catabolism. Our provides novel knowledge strategies improve utilization cultured aquatic animals.
