Abstract
The
idea
that
the
acquisition
of
and
proficiency
in
non-hegemonic
languages
can
be
pivotal
to
international
student
mobility
has
thus
far
been
insufficiently
addressed.
In
this
paper,
we
draw
on
23
in-depth
interviews
with
Chinese
students
explore
question,
showing
how
perception
Portuguese-language
learning
practice
at
Lusophone
Higher
Education
Institutions
(e.g.,
Portugal,
Macao,
Angola,
Brazil)
represents
a
decisive
trigger
for
studying
abroad,
an
alternative
strategy
acquiring
linguistic
capital
non-dominant
language
which
skills
converted
into
competitive
resources
future
professional
paths.
We
conclude
by
arguing
need
address
blind
spot
transnational
mobilities,
positioning
“language
proficiency”
as
structuring
dimension,
not
just
processes
decide
move,
but
also
their
imaginaries
preparedness
career
trajectories.

Migration
studies
first
took
up
a
systems
perspective
in
the
1970s
to
explain
migration
flows
and
their
dynamics
over
time.
Over
last
decades,
dominant
discourse
analysis
have
remained
constrained
within
limits
of
'migration
system'.
While
influence
'wider
environment'
on
system
has
been
recognized,
what
elements
wider
environment
are
mechanisms
remain
poorly
articulated.
Through
eight
innovative
contributions,
this
Special
Issue
seeks
contribute
firstly,
unpacking
(i.e.
other
systems)
that
constitute
with
which
components
(e.g.
migrants,
sending
receiving
communities,
institutions,
policies,
etc.)
interact,
secondly,
disentangling
mutual
influences
between
environment.
This
as
whole
suggests
growing
complexity
governance
demands
complexity-based
approach
acknowledges
multiple
relations
among
systems.
In
respect,
its
linkages
need
be
better
captured
through
an
analytical
based
thinking.

Based
on
a
longitudinal
study,
this
article
explores
the
divergent
migration
pathways
and
post-return
identity
negotiations
among
Japanese-Pakistani
Muslim
youths.
Through
an
intersectional
lens,
I
examine
how
emotions
strategies
shape
their
decisions
regarding
educational
mobility
returning
to
Japan.
My
study
further
reveals
ways
in
which
these
youths
navigate
reception
contexts
upon
return,
marked
by
evolving
discourse
around
hāfu
(children
of
mixed
parentage).
Their
narratives
illustrate
intersection
racialization,
religion,
gender
prompts
feelings
alienation
other
emotional
dynamics.
By
actively
responding
such
challenges,
forge
new
subjectivities,
drawing
resources
from
multinational
journeys.
In
conclusion,
argue
for
moving
beyond
binary
framework
sending
receiving
countries
understand
complex
that
second-generation
transnational
social
fields
negotiate
identities
belonging,
impacting
shifting
dynamics
ethnoscape

experiences

Rohingya
in
India,

Abstract
In
view
of
the
growing
onward
migration
and
multisited
transnationalism
among
naturalized
EU
citizens,
this
article
seeks
to
advance
current
understanding
transnational
social
fields,
cataloguing
complex
interplays
migrants'
ways
being,
belonging,
in‐betweenness
across
different
places
spaces.
Drawing
on
qualitative
research
with
Italian
Bangladeshis
in
Italy
United
Kingdom,
paper
presents
how
their
‘ways
being’
are
expressed
by
maintaining
attachments
country
origin
wider
Bangladeshi
diaspora.
